The best way to know for sure is to take it to a mechanic. If the car is riding rough, it may be the fuel pump. Check your car regularly and auto diagnostic tool for cars.

It sounds like your losing fuel pressure. If you have gauges, have them check the fuel pressure. That will tell you if the fuel pump is going bad. Never go below 1/4 tank of gas. This will damage the fuel pump very quickly.

How can you tell if the fuel pump or the fuel relay are bad, just changed the filter car ran fine for a day. can't here the pump all the time, it seems to come and go.What do think?

very good chance the fuel pump is going can put your figer on top of the fuel pump relay and have someone turn on the key listen and feel for a click from the relay. if none you will need to use a volt meter and check the fuel pump fuse.if ok replace the fuel pumpor drop the tank and test for voltage to pump. hope this helps.

My f350 1997 will not run on the rear tank . how do i go about finding what the problem is?

well, first, to find out if its the in tank fuel pump or the tank selector valve, the cheapest and probable easiest thing to do is find the selector valve under the truck and switch the incoming fuel lines. front tank to rear tank inlet, and vice versa. If the truck still doesnt run, you either have an electrical delivery problem to the in tank fuel pump or a bad fuel pump. If after switching the lines, it does run, then you need a new selector valve

Not getting power to fuel pump

You won't get any voltage to the fuel pump, until you "crank" the engine. It picks up a signal from the distributor which then talks to the ECM telling the car to turn the fuel pump on. The main relay is bad about going out on Honda's but they usually cool down and work, until you shut the car off. I'm leaning more towards a bad distributor.

No fuel coming out of fuel line

the system is working properly, the engine has to start for the fuel pump to continue to get 12 volts, if u cylce the key on the pumps runs a few seconds and then goes off, your pump is getting correct signal it just isn't running, u need a fuel pump.

Noise fual pump

Your fuel pump is going bad but you need to find out what's making your fuel pump bad. It could be something in the line making the fuel pump work extra hard or could be the line itself could be smaller than what it should be. If you gonna replace the fuel pump, the best way around that is to buy a whole gas tank from a salvage yard (taking a chance but fuel pump will be included) so you won't risk contamination in your gas tank.
