Re: How do I open the center console on 2002 Lexus ES300?
Remove the shifter knob, then remove the silver piece with the P, R, N, D markings on it (this piece is surrounded by a black rubber which will also come off with it). then pry between the woodgrain piece and the trim around it by pushing the woodgrain piece upward using a flathead or something that will not scratch the wood. Then, to get a wider opening, pry at the trim around the wood by pulling it upward starting by the side near the cupholder, everything should come apart like a puzzle
a 6ya Mechanic can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Start with the rear console. Two screws on the sides, then open the console and pry up the plate in the bottom. Remove the screws under the plate. Pull emergency brake lever. Remove cup holder insert. Three more screws to remove. Now the console will come out when you lift it and pull it back out of the clips. Next remove the ashtray. One screw behind the ash tray two more for the cover. Disconnect wires. the stereo is accessible.
The engine air filter in a 2002 lexus ES300 is located in a black box behind the battery. It should have a thick air hose connecting to it which is the air intake. Open the two 10 millimeter bolts holding it together and open it and replace the filter.
I have a 1987 740 & the fuse box is located behind the ash tray in the center console. After removing the ash tray you can access the fuse box. Each fuse description, size, & location are listed on the back of the ash tray.
I had the same problem on my '97. I ended up taking out the lighter when I was replacing the LCD on the radio, only to find that somehow it had become disconnected. Not sure how it happened but it might be worth checking out to see if it wiggled loose. To get to the lighter: 1) Prior up the cover by the shifter (the one that also goes back to the seat heater). It is connected with snaps so pry slowly. 2) Once the panel is removed you will see screws that are holding in the ash tray/cig lighter. Unscrew those and the whole lighter/ash tray can be pulled out. It is also held in by snaps on the top.
