The light come on for the 4wd on my 93 dodge Dakota le but will not shirt in

Check the two vacuum hoses on the right
front side, of the front axle housing

You can use a hand held vacuum gauge, to check
the vacuum modulator & see if it will lock the front axle

Have to have the front end up in air & supported &
turn wheel/tire by hand, as you apply vacuum

Keep in mind with 4 wheel drive, only the right rear &
left front are driven wheels, not all 4

If the front axle locks in, with you pulling a vacuum & you have no
vacuum at the front hoses, then go to the transfer shifter & next to
it,is the vacuum switch

I have a 1988 Dodge Dakota 4x4 that is stuck in park

Try wiggling the steering wheel left and right as you turn the key - sometimes the steering wheel lock can stop the key from turning if there is pressure on it.

1988 dodge dakota front diff will not lock in

Remove the two vacuum hoses on front axle
Apply vacuum with a hand held pump and check for
the vacuum actuator, pulling in the right front axle.
If okey,go back to the transfer shifter and check vac sw and hoses.

How do i remove the front left axle?

to remove your front axles also known as cv axles you have to pull your brake caliper and rotor off. Then you have to break your hub assembly nut that holds the cv axle tight to the hub assembly. Then you have to bust loose your upper and lower ball joints. After then its 4 or 6 bolts where your cv axle attachs to your front differental.
