Not getting fuel

I just bought this 1994 toyota tercel it has been sitting for 4 years. The car had no gas in it I changed fuel filter, put gas in it the car tried to start the car won't start. After cranking for a while I thought maybe the car was vapor locked so I cracked the fuel line and nothing, no fuel. The lady drove it and parked it where i bought it at .Should I be able to here the fuel pump running if so where is it? I did not get a chance to look at fuses.

You should beable to hear the fuel pump pumping when you turn the key switch on but also check the fuses i would also check to see if the air breather is plug i have seen mice get up in there and plug them tight

SOURCE: my back lights won't turn off on my toyota tercel

  • Push the driver's seat as far back as possible, allowing you to lay on the floor on the driver's side.
  • 2 Shine a flashlight at the top of the brake pedal stalk and find the stoplight switch. It will be a plastic cube either connected to the brake stalk or directly opposite the brake stalk, depending on the vehicle.
  • 3 Depress the brake pedal and feel where the brake light switch contacts the stopping plate, a metal plate in direct line with the stoplight switch.
  • 4 Feel for an open hole where the stoplight's plunger-style button presses. If a hole is present, you simply need to replace the rubber stopper.
  • 5 Press and release the plunger-style button on the brake light switch and ask an assistant if the brake lights are turning off and on. If not, the switch is bad and must be replaced.
Stoplight Switch Stopper Replacement
  • 1 Clean out any remaining debris left behind by the old stopper from the hole that the stopper goes into.
  • 2 Press the new stopper into the hole on the metal plate until it snaps into place.
  • 3 Shine the flashlight on the stopper and check that it sits flush against the metal plate.
  • 4 Press and release the brake pedal and ask your assistant if the brake lights are turning off and on.
  • 5 Replace the stoplight switch if the lights continue to stay on.
Stoplight Switch Replacement
  • 1 Loosen and remove the bolts holding the stoplight switch in place. It could be between one and four bolts depending on the vehicle.
  • 2 Pull the stoplight switch from its mount. Disconnect the wiring harness from the stoplight switch by pressing or pulling the locking tab and puling the harness away from the switch.
  • 3 Plug the wiring harness into the new switch until the locking tab clicks into place.
  • 4 Place the new switch on the mount the old switch was removed from and tighten the bolts with a ratchet and socket.
  • 5 Press and release the brake pedal several times and have your assistant check for proper operation.

I just bought a 91 mazda B2200 pick up truck that has been sitting for 4 years. I gave it a tune up and it still spits and sputters and hesitates while pushing down on gas pedal. What is the problem?

if it sat for 4 years then it could be bad gas and need to be removed and fresh fuel put in the tank. the fuel system may also be gummed up and have to have a fuel system cleaner run through it for a few tanks of gas. this is common when you look at boat motors/snowmobiles in the spring and fall when they are put in use after sitting for a long time. change the fuel filter if you haven`t already. it wouldn`t hurt to check fuel pressure as well as the pump may have a problem.

Where is the fuel filter located

The fuel filter is located on driver side of the firewall just a little to the right when looking under the hood. The following video walks you through the whole process.

the first thing i would do is put some STP gas treatment with fuel injector cleaner in it also make sure you have at less a half tank of gas in it and drive it on a back road where you can get up to 55mph Merry Christmas and Happy New Year as always wish you the best of luck Michigan Man

I can drive for 30 min. With no prob. After that

Sounds like fuel vapor lock. When fuel is heated, it will change from liquid to gas.... gas bubbles don't feed very well through injectors or throttle bodies.
Inspect your metal fuel lines under the hood, most likely. See if a metal hose is touching the engine, especially the near or on the exhaust manifold. You might want to insulate the fuel lines (Lowe's or Home Depot $4) with pipe insulation.

Fuel problem

first i would cover the basics. change the fuel filter, next change the spark plugs, careful this car takes special spark plugs. probably have to get from toyota. next clean the throttle body, pull air nozzle off and open the butterfly so you can spray throttle body cleaner in their and clean with toothbrush. also dont be alarmed after cleaning the throttle body and changing the fuel filter it will be hard starting, hold the gas pedal half way.

Fuel is not getting to the fuel filter in my 1987 toyota tercel. how do i fix this? i think there is a clog in the gas lines but how do i get to them?

Make sure you have power to your fuel pump. If so, remove the filter, and use an air hose to blow the line out going into the tank.

Idles too low

A clogged fuel injector would make the engine shake, and your power would be compromised.
Whe you changed the plugs, did you put Toyota plugs in, or a different brand? More often than not, using any other plug than plugs bought at a Toy dealer can make the engine run worse. The engines are designed with a specific plug. Also, replace the wires if they are older than 5 years.
