SOURCE: How do I locate the instrument panel on 2000 impala?

Usually the connector is located near to the drivers pedals. Legally the connector needs to be within three feet of the pedals area.

SOURCE: cars lights flicker and instrument panel goes

The first thing yu want to check is the battery, are the connections clean and tight. Sounds like a bad ground on the battery, but won't know till this is checked.

What does the word CAL mean that shows on the dash

CAL stands for Calibrate. The IPC (instrument panel cluster) needs to be recalibrated. This could becaused by a battery/power spike, which means the IPC will need to relearn default settings, or therecould be an underlying problem. Technician will need to hook it up to a computer to analyze problem, and relearn settings.

Check for instrument panel fuses. Or you may have a defective ipc (instrument panel control module) Instrument panel itself.

Instrument panel on 2003 Honda CRV starts flashing when headlights are on

Have had a similar experience with my 2000 Ford Windstar. The extra load added by turning on the headlights affects the instrumentation power feed. The illumination flickers and the gages go crazy. Your 2003 CRV may have its original battery which is near death. It took me four batteries to stabilize things and I still get the flickers at night sometimes

Instrument panel and radio lights randomly flicker

Sounds to me like a loose wiring connection behind the dash or possibly loose fuse connections

All of a sudden I started my van and the speedometer doesn't work and the check engine light comes on

You can try to reset the cluster by perform an instrument calibration. If I remember correctly, push the trip odometer and reset buttons in until the gauges react. The cal takes about 10 seconds. If it's still bad after that but, the speedo moves during the cal, it's a good bet the speedo is good and the problem lies elsewhere.

If that doesn't help try removing the IOD fuse for a couple minutes. It's in the fuse/relay panel next to the battery. This resets the body control module (BCM) which controls most of the electronics in the van.

Still dead? It's either the cluster, BCM, or vehicle speed sensor (VSS) on the tranny, or wiring. Since you're not complaining of shifting problems I would think it's likely not the VSS. If you go for the cluster, check the connectors contacts and solder joints closely. They are notorious for being subpar. An indication of this would be the speedo coming to life after you smack the top of the dash (common technique).

OBTW The dealer can determine the problem in minutes using a scanner.
