Question about 2008 Toyota Yaris Sedan

1 Answer

Yaris completely loses power and 'pops' when accelerating

My wife's Yaris stalls when stopped at lights after first juddering. Also when she accelerates, whether on a highway or after slowing down around a bend, the car completely loses power and sometimes the exhaust "POPS". One 1 occassion it failed toaccelerate from a standstill after pulling over at the side of the road for a few minutes with the engine running. The problem only seems to occur after the car has been running for a while, it's fine first thing in the morning

Only going with Toyota because they see many Yaris problems, it may be the problem. I have several bits of advice. Find out if the O2 sensor is classified as a Federal Pollution Warranty device. The Federal government requires a 7 Year and I believe 70,000 to 100,000 Mile Warranty on parts affecting the Emissions requirements.

This means a FREE repair. Also go to Aboutautomobile.com and toggle through the menu and select your car to find out about Recalls and TSB's. There may be more info about other things wrong on your car.

I hope my solution is helpful, please rate my response.

judering sounds like brakes ,but iam no doubt wrong it could be a valve allowing air into manifold not working ,loss of power is no doubt caused by the same component, best advice apart from burning it and giving the agincourt salute is take it too dealers as most renaults use a lot of software based programs ,some are readable and some are not ,new ones use encrypted software ,mechanics nightmare these cars ,another pos is the valve control on the throttle ,,,but it would be cheaper in the long run to use the dealer

SOURCE: Chevy S10 Pick 1995 - Sputters and almost stalls when accelerating.

You could have a dirty EGR valve, you can re move it from the manifold and clean it with Throttle body cleaner. Might as well buy two cans, since your cleaning the EGR, might as well clean out the throttle body too.
Spray the throttle body cleaner in to the throttle body with the engine running and try to keep it at 1000 rpm and then to 1500 rpm as you clean out the throttle body and let it idle down for 2 min then turn the engine off. Then turn the engine to the run position for 10 seconds and start and let idle, ro for a test drive and hope that solved the problem, if not there a few more things we can do which will consist for tune up.
Note: Clean the EGR first so you don't burn your self since the engine would still be cool before you clean the Throttle body.
Good luck and keep me posted.

It sounds like there may be an issue with your ignition system.

Check the ignition wires, distributor cap, spark plugs.

Lexus SC430 Stalling Problem

Check the EVAP system canister purge valve, usually located on or near the canister itself which should be near the fuel tank. If the valve is clogged or stuck, it will cause excessive backpressure in the vapor return system, which sounds like what is happening here. Good luck, hope this helps.

Srs light, crazy odometer then no read outs, engine stalls won't start

Check the battery and alternator wiring connections. Also, check the alternator belt. If it is missing or has no tension, the belt tensioner may be broken. The thumping seems to imply a catastrophic mechanical failure or a small explosion affecting the electrical system, but it may have been unburned fuel igniting in the catalytic converter due to a problem with the engine computer (perhaps it wasn't working right due to the electrical problem).

Stalls in reverse

You might want to check for a busted fuel pressure regulator diaphragm. With the engine running, pull the vacuum line off the regulator. If gas comes out of the regulator, replace it. For the acceleration issue, check the signal on the map sensor. It should change drastically when you open the throttle.

get a friend with a hacksaw and a welder to chop it off and put a piece of straightpipe on it. it'll be fine. but first, unplug the mass air flow sensor and/ or the manifold absolute pressure sensor and see if they are fouled out first. check all sensors first.
