High idle -1984 chevy cavalier- 2.0 tbi automatic

I suspect the TPS is bad- already tried the idle air solenoid to no effect (still idles high- 2000 rpm).
Can I read out the codes by shorting terminals in the diagnostic plug? which ones? what colors?

The car idles at around 2400 rpm. The A/C compressor was removed before I got the car. ???

I meant to say your car thinks the a/c is on all the time and that is why you have the fast idle. If that indeed is the problem and not a vacuum leak, it can be fixed with a relay and a diode.

Make sure there are no vaccuum leaks for example, the throttle body gasket, PCV tube, or intake gasket.

I have a 1990 Chevy 1500 SS truck with a 454ci. that has an idle

You don't have to try both, but...If you can get a scanner hooked up, you can see the TPS move as you depress the throttle, and verify if it is good or bad. The IAC can also be viewed with a scanner, and they get gummed up, and most can be cleaned.
Also, a bad temperature sensor can cause a high idle if it thinks it's real cold out.
Also, a bad power steering pressure switch can cause a high idle.
All of these can be looked at with a scanner!

1990 full size blazer starts fine idles then dies

sounds real easy either a bad idle air control solenoid or more likley a blown throttle body gasket. to test fro a blown gasket, with engine running and cool spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around base of tb were it bolts to intake. when it hits the bad area, should idle down and be normal for a second or 2. iac is possible, try this first since its so common and let me know

1987 Chevy Cavalier 2.0L auto. Back fire through TBI. high idle.

try unplugging the brake booster vacumm line and cap the line to see if this helps.make sure the throttle is against the stop where it hits the set screw for the idle, but dont try to adjust it,its at a factory setting.

Idle speed adjustment

While looking at the engine from in front of the car with the hood up..
Locate the TBI assembly ( follow the air intake tub from the cor support back. It leads directly to it ). Next look on the lower left side of the TBI just above the throttle linkage connection to the TBI.
you will see what looks like a little molded bullet sticking off the side with a screw sticking out of it making contact with the linkage assembly. On the back side of that little bullet you will see a torques head type screw head. adjust that forwards to increase idle speed or back it off to lower idle.
If you have a high idle condition the chances are it is not due to the idle set screw. Its more then likely either deteriorated vacum lines, deteriorated TBI gasket or a bad Air Idle Control Motor ( IAC ).
If you adjust the screw and nothing happens worth noting then check the vacum lines and replace. If nothing happens still then change the TBI gasket where it mounts to the intake.
If that doesnt do it then your left with the more costly option of changin out the IAC for a new one. They run from $75 - $125 depending on where you shop.
If after you change the IAC and it is still acting out then you may have an intak emanifold leak, or a head leak.
