SOURCE: Check engine lights stays on with rough idle 2004

You will have to connect a scan tool to the vehicle to pull any codes that the computer is sending.
The number of the code will help us find the problem.
A rough idle could be a fuel or electrical problem.
Please let me know what you find.

SOURCE: where is the cabin filter located in a 2004

http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WO4TOW/~MUS~LEN/42/04towog3e.pdf

The owner's guide is above.

I couldn't find a reference to a cabin filter in it, only an air filter for the engine.

http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/content/~WO4TOW/~MUS~LEN/36/04a04mg5e.pdf

The scheduled maintenance document says to change the cabin filter, if equipped for certain vehicles.
http://www.flmowner.com/servlet/ContentServer?cid=1251117148225&pagename=Owner%2FPage%2FArticleDetail&recid=1251387049862&parentheadlineimageid=1234280151966&parentrightrecid=1239636411265

The above link says that they recommend changing the cabin filter every 15,000 mi.

I even looked up some other cars for 2004 and 2010 and the owners guide, which is supposed to have the location, doesn't seem to have the location of the cabin filter.

I would phone or email Ford.com to find out where it's supposed to be:

Loud rattle sound when Idling

I suggest you have your car checked as soon as possible - while a rattling exhaust isn't desperately urgent it could be the cat breaking up which might later restrict the flow of gases. Most importantly excessively loose timing belts or chains tend to make most noise when the engine is idling. If the noise is being caused by this delay could be very expensive.

1994 Lincoln Towncar is idling and running rough. Have changed the plugs and wires recently and no change. Compression is good..93,000 miles on it. New Air idle pump also. Do you have any suggestions? ...

Is the check engine light on ?
Fuel pressure ok ?
If it has a steady miss on one or more cylinders you'll need to figure out which cylinders and what is missing = spark-fuel-compresson.
