Question about 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera
Do I need to change the sensor or replace the gas reader that is placed over the gas tank?
That old of a car it would be best to replace the fuel pump and the sending unit at the same time in the gas tank. please be safe and good luck..

sounds like you done allot to this car. did you clean your gas tank? Reason i say this there are times you get bad gas that water with it. and it sounds like you got water in your tank. need to get it out. Try this get some rubbing alcohol and poor it in your tank. It won't hurt it. It will soak up the water that's in your tank. try this and let me know how it goes.
Thank you for writing to fix ya.
Best Regards Richard

Testimonial: "yeah, i did that this morning, the gas tank had a bunch of **** in it, changed fuel filter, tank needed cleaned same prob still thanks though"
I hear what Your sayin' and this is a mystery to Me. I had to ask are You parking on a slanted hill or some sort? If so thIs may be the cause, You know! all the gas shifting to one side away from the pump unit that travels the fuel through the lines to the engine so it can start. Thought I would give some input, hopefully its something simple like this. "GOOD DAY"

In Canada Canadian Tire sells a fuel additive to put in the tank and fill up with gas (must fill up to cover sensor in tank ) might take two appliciations but it worked in mine

Yes it is possible to replace the fuel level potentiometer or even try to see if this can be repaired.
You will need to drain the tank and take the unit out to check for corrosion or worn out windings.
If a meter can be used to check the rating of the resistors you can check to see if the winding can be repaired.
