Question about 2001 Mercedes-Benz E-Class
The 'Battery/Alternator Viist WorkShop !' warning light came on yesterday. The battery is a month old so I removed the alternator and took it to AutoZone to test. They reported it passed the check. Is there a fuse for the alternator. I have reviewed the fuse diagram and it is basically greek. Does anyone know if there is a fuse for this, if so, which one and where is it located. Thanks in advance JD

It is always safer to charge the battery out of circuit, Removal of one cable will insure you can safely charge without hurting electronics on board. Generally if your battery is already sufficiently charged it acts like a capacitor in the circuit and will prevent damage, but many battery chargers do not always put out a pure dc voltage and this can damage electonics.

Most likely cause is the 'stop lamp switch'
It is a electric switch located on the brake pedal inside the car, about half way up on the brake pedal.
Pretty cheap too, I think the switch is only like $25 bucks.
2 connectors on the switch and then it turns out.
hope that helps
Fan relay should be in black box near frewall

This is normally a low voltage from the alternator condition. Hook a voltmeter to the battery and note the reading. Should be 11.6vdc to 12.2vdc. Start the car, after a minute or so it should be around 13 to 14 vdc., if not then the alternator may be bad

Usually the fuse chart is in with the tool kit in the trunk underneath the carpet on left hand side. It will be held with velcro. The fuse chart has the fuse box locations on it as well. If not the fuse box locations are 1-in the trunk on the left side behind the little carpet panel. remove panel and then remove plastic cage looking cover and the padding. 2- on the drivers side of the dash. open door and remove cover. 3- in the engine compartment by the hood hinges. slide tabs and remove cover.
