Question about Cars & Trucks

The Brake lights on my husbands Chevy 3500 wont turn off unless you pull the battery, can anyone tell me what is the problem and how to fix it?

When its running its fine but when you turn it off the lights remain on until the battery dies or is completely unplugged. I've pulled the fuse and tried turning off everything else but it still doesn't turn off the brake lights. Trying to fix before he comes home please help.

There is a switch located on the brake pedal up under the dash. When you depress the pedal, the pedal arm allows a push-button to extend out, making electrical contact and illuminating the lights. Sometimes this will work its way out of adjustment, allowing the lights to stay on.

The shifter release solenoid is activated by the brake light switch. Check to see if the brake lights are working when you press the brake pedal. If not, that may be the reason why the shifter won't come out of park. You may need to replace or adjust the brake light switch. (It's located at the top of the brake pedal arm).

Check brake switch, and all brake wiring connections. Solenoid also may have series wiring from brake switch which will not allow solenoid to activate unless it is getting current from brake lights circuit telling that it is safe to take the car out of gear as long as the brake is depressed. Acuras and Honda are notorious for this type of wiring. A drop in voltage can cause these critical problems. Have your battery tested first. Sounds like a bad battery though.

Some cars have two brake switches under the dash. Try manually pushing the button on the switch while someone looks at the brake lights. It may just need adjusted. Good luck. Please rate me so I know how I'm doing. Thanks.

Unplug the turnsignal switch. If it stops then replace the switch. This is a common problem. Alot of times it is the hazard button that melts and causes it because all the turn signal functions go though the hazard switch but you have to replace the whole switch to fix it. Let me know what you find or if I can help you further. Please rate.
