SOURCE: step by step replacing heater

If bolts won't come out and you've taken the nuts off, Then they are stiuds.Locate the heater hoses where they enter the firewall. The heater core is right on the other side of firewall. Which you probably already know. Good luck

SOURCE: I need step by step instructions on how to change

It's been a while since I've done one of those. If my memory serves correct you have to remove the lower right bolt that holds the dash in place. Then you can pull the dash out enough to get the core out. If you can see it you have to be almost there. Do you have the glove compartment out? It seems to me there are some electrical components that sit on top of heater that have to be removed too. Hoses disconnected under the hood? I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

I do not have heat in the van. how can I fix it

See if there is any leakage around your engine, especially where your coolant pipe goes into contact. After that check if there is any leackage coming from your passenger compartment. If not, the main reason for not getting heat is that there is something wrong with the heater core. Either it is leaking, or not getting contact with your coolant hose. You might need to replace the heater core which could range in hundreds to the thousand depending on how complicated it is... normally the heater core cost under 75.00 but labor charges, we all know about labor charges. Their hefty.

Heater core 2000 ford windstar

Inspect/Replace If it is necessary to remove the heater assembly, the cooling system must be drained before removing the heater core.
When a heater core leaks, a new heater core is installed or the old one repaired.
Heater Housing
  • The heater housing is usually under the dash and must be removed to gain access to the heater core.
  • Procedures for replacing the heater core vary with the year, make, and model of car. It threfore necessary to consult the manufacturer's repair manuals for the proper procedure for replacement.
f74-01.gif The heater housing is disassembled to get to the heater core. Heater Core
  • Remove the access panels(s) or the split heater/air conditioning case to gain acess to the heater core.
  • Remove the heater coolant hoses.
  • Remove the cable and/or vacuum control lines (if equipped).
  • Remove the heater core securing brackets and/or clamps.
  • Lift the core from the case. Do not use force. Take care not to damage the fins of the heater core when removing.
  • To reinstall the heater core, reverse the removal steps.
When the heater core leaks and must be repaired or replaced, it is a very difficult and time-consuming job primarily because of the core's location deep within the firewall of the car. For this reason always leak test a replacement heater core before installation.

My heat in my van is not working its blowing out cold air and making funnying noises.

Bad thermostat or bad heater core may be the cause of no heat. The noise would be the fan motor. Have it checked.

No heat in 99 ford windstar

Check the coolant level. If it's low, what you describe will happen. There is not sufficient coolant to flow through the heater core at idle. At 60mph the water pump is spinning quickly, managing to get some coolant through the heater core, so you get heat until the rpm's drop at idle. If it is due to low level, keep an eye on it to see if it drops again, as you may have a leak.
