#2 misfire fouled spark plug in sunfire

Recently changed #2 spark plug and two months later it's missing again. car shakes badly at morning start up sometimes check engine light flashes, but once it warms up it's fine. Driving I can tell it's missing. Had Sears do a diagnostic and they said the spark plugs are fouled again. I don't have any visible oil leaks except from the valve cover gasket which is irrelevant. Could be a cracked head I assume but I need some advice. My current plan is to change the spark plugs every time I notice it missing. I'm not investing a **** load of money in this car. I'd rather buy a new one at income tax time.HELP!! -Broke mom/college student

changed all 4 spark plugs today, still running terrible. The second spark plug wire is broken, really hoping once I replace the wires the problem is solved. Would a damaged wire cause my car to "chug" and backfire??

Yes bad leads will be one of the faults
run the motor in the dark raise the bonnet look for sparkle trails
on the leads

coil pack could be faulty

compression test will tell if it is a leaky valve

back fire can be running lean or timing

SOURCE: service engine soon light keeps coming on. Now low coolant light

I would start by doing an oil change myself so you can examine the oil and look for water/antifreeze in it. You will be able to see it separate from the oil and you can smell the antifreeze. If there is then you have a leak between the water jacket and the heads somewhere. More than likely the LOWER intake gasket is leaking into the head. You said they replaced a gasket but was it the UPPER or LOWER? If it was the LOWER did they use RTV in the correct areas? Did they torque the intake bolts to the correct pressure and install the bolts correctly? I know you don't have these answers but these could all be part of the problem. It may be leaking more at #2 cylinder and causing it to foul more than the others. Also just because a mech pressurized the coolant system and didnt see any change in pressure (hopefully he wasn't just looking for visible leaks) the issue may not happen until the engine is hot, as metals behave differently when heated, especially aluminum which the LOWER intake is made. Have a mechanic or mechanically inclined friend (gearhead) remove the #2 plug wire, then kick the engine a few times without starting it, enough to let any fluid get into the chamber, this would include gas btw. Then remove the plug and look for any wet residue on the plug, gas will evap. quickly, antifreeze/oil won't. again try to smell the residue and if necessary, lightly touch some to your tongue, antifreeze has a sugary sweet taste that is easily detectable. Remember any time you are working with chemicals such as waste oil and especially anti freeze, minimize spills and clean them up quickly and completely and place the spent fluid in a sealable container and take them to a collection center for disposal. Waste oil is a carcinagin (cancer causing) agent and antifreeze (glycol) new or old will kill any animal (child, dog, cat, etc) that ingests it. Many auto parts stores and some other retailers that sell oil and antifreeze will take your wastes if you bought the replacement fluid from them, check before you buy.

Check to see that plug wire is fully seated on plug and coil pack..Then, pull plug to see if fouled due to not firing when pack was bad.

2004 Dodge durango motor shakes an reading cylinder 5 misfire

seems like you have a fouled spark plug or bad spark plug wire or even both. If you can change that on your own, just pull the #5 plug and see if its fouled, it will look black and covered in carbon. once you have the one plug out its a good idea to just change them all out along with the plug wires.

Cylinder #1 continues to Misfire

What DTC code(s) are you getting?
You performed a compression test on cylinder #1; did you test cylinder #2?
Compare the readings, if there is a significant difference in compression readings between the two, you may have a bad head gasket, a bad valve, etc.
The bottom line, the problem is internal to the engine.

Replacement Spark Plugs Continually Misfiring for Cyl. #1

Locate the ignition coils - they are mounted on the ignition module. Remove the wide connector that goes to the module. You will have to unscrew it first. Spray some WD40 on the connector pins and try to scrub them with a tip of a small screwdriver. Be delicate not to brake or bend anything. Reconnect the connector. Start the engine and see if it still misses.
If it still does, try to touch/move each of the wires that go to the ignition module. BE VERY CAREFUL not to touch any of the moving parts of the engine as you have to do it with engine running.

If it still misses, do the following.
1. Engine off
2. Mark the ignition wires so that you reconnect them later in the same order
3. Locate the coil which gives spark for cyl 1
4. Switch locations of this coil with any of the two remaining coils
5. Reconnect the wires
6. Start the engine

If it now misses on another cylinder, you will have to buy a new coil.

sounds like u need 2 go over the whole ingnition system. unless u can isolate missfire down to one cilynder u may need 2 change rotor arm dizzy cap leads & plugs but maybe first start with a compression test 2 make sure rings&valves are ok and its not a low compression miss.sometimes it can be cheaper 2 have mechanic put car on a tune scope good luck

Vehicle missing,shaking,engine light comes on

Misfire could be a number of things:
a) spark plugs - change them if used over 15K miles - inspect/regap.
b) spark plug wires - change them if over 15K miles - inspect
c) ECM (electronic control module) - test with HEI (high energy ignition) tester.

The shaking tells me that the engine is running on less than its normal compliment of cylinders - the shaking is produced by the imbalance caused in the engine by one (or more) cylinder(s)
not firing at all.

The "Check Engine" light probably is coming on due the the misfire condition. Go to Pep Boys or
Advance Auto Pats, where they'll tell you (free) your codes causing the "Check Engine' light to be
lit - the code coming from your truck's computer will probably be one or more of:
P0300 - Random/Multiple Cylinder misfire detected
P0301 - Cylinder 1 misfire detected
P0302 - Cylinder 2 misfire detected
P0303 - Cylinder 3 misfire detected
P0304 - Cylinder 4 misfire detected
P0305 - Cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0306 - Cylinder 6 misfire detected
P0307 - Cylinder 7 misfire detected
P0308 - Cylinder 8 misfire detected
P0313 - Misfire detected with low fuel

04 sunfire drove perfect all day but just as I was pulling in my parking lot it started shaking real bad....what could be wrong?

Sounds like an engine misfire, One of the cylinders isn't firing correctly, You could have a bad spark plug or injector, but that year sunfire were known for faulty ignition coils. If the shake was severe enough it would indicate a coil issue because 2 out of you 4 cylinders aren't firing properly (a coil controls spark to 2 cylinders at a time). To be sure have it checked out at a garage, if the check engine light is on have it scanned at a large parts retailer (usually for free) or at a locate reliable garage. It would better determine the cause of the shaking.
