Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

I had to change a flat tire. When I was replacing my spare tire to the storage location somehow it cause my truck to shut off. I found it blew out my license plate light bulb and tripped my fuel cut off switch. Once I corrected both of those this used it started right up and ran fine for a short time and then it died while driving. I didn't replace my fuel pump. Now I'm having to start the vehicle in neutral otherwise it will not go into gear, the interior lights do not work, nor does the speedomitor. Any suggestions?

SOURCE: Chevy S10 Tail Light issue

CHEVY S-10 TAIL LIGHTS PROBLEM RESOLVED...It seems Chevy engineered a ground shorting clip located under the left rear bumper area. It looks like a connector for trailer wiring harness, but in actuallity is a metal shorting clip which ties 5 wires together. They are all the ground wires for the tail lights. Then one single small wire runs to ground completeing the circuit. Problem is that this one wire is not tough enough to be a strain relief for the grounding plug and over time the ground wire wears, leaving intermittent lighting problems. FIX IS TO SPLICE THE GROUND WIRE INTO ONE OF THE FIVE OTHER WIRES AND USE PLASTIC TY WRAP FOR STRAIN RELIEF. This fixes no tail lights, intermittent rear signals, and other significant problems. I just got done making this same repair on a 2000 s-10 and everything works fine. Since it is the strain on the single ground wire connected to the connector that leads to failure, it is best to tie a new ground or clip the ground wire coming out of the plug and resplice it into one of the other five wires. Does not matter which one since electrically it makes no difference; they are all gound wires. BUT only one wire completes the connection and that is the problem. Really good engineering Chevy! The location is under left rear of bed in wiring harness right before the split. The connector is blue or green. Take the cover off to see the metal shorting clip. Also note the ground wire coming out of the plug/connector and runs about 8 inches to frame. If this is not hooked up you will have tail light issues. If you register on Autozone .com you can access wiring schematics for free. BL

SOURCE: no voltage going to new fuel pump

The GRAY wire i believe going to the fuel pump is the hot wire it should come on for 2 seconds with just the key in the on position this is were you should check voltage for 2 seconds then it will go away until you crank the truck.Your oil sending unit is behind your distributor that could be the cause .

What full-size tire can replace the OEM spare of 2002 Windstar to fit the spare storage well?

The temporary spare is very narrow as will be the space available for storage. If you want an answer then I suggest you measure the storage compartment HEIGHT WIDTH AND LENGTH and come back and pose your question.
The first problem you will have is to get a wheel that will fit the car that is not too wide for the wheel storage area. If the available wheels are all too wide then you will will not be able to store a full size spare in the storage compartment. For that vehicle the available full size wheels in the correct bolt pattern will not be less than 6 or 6.5 inches wide.

How to take a spare tire off gmc envoy 2004

Since the spare is mounted under the rear of the car, Its not easy...you have to assemble the long crank rod out of its two pieces, then feed the rod through the hole in the top of the rear bumper and lock it into the mechanism that holds the tire in place. Once the crank rod is locked in, lower the tire towards the ground. Once the tire is low enough, you can crawl under the car and release the tire from its mount. The hardest part is locking the crank rod into the spare tire mechanism through the hole in the bumper.

Do i need to replace all four tires if one went flat? what are the limitations of the spare?

You only have to replace the one that went flat, but if the other three are well worn, you may need a full set.

Plus, you generally cannot mix tire tread "on an axle", meaning tread on the front wheels should be the same, tread on rear wheels should be the same, but tread on front and back wheels do not need to be the same.

For the spare, it depends on if it's a full spare, or lightweight spare, meant to get you to a tire repair location. If so, limits are usually written on the tire, which is typically 50 miles and (I think) max speed of 50 MPH.

Where is the jack and tools for spare tire?

CHANGING A FLAT TIRE
Jack Location
In the Durango, the scissor jack and tire changing tools
are stowed under the second row seat.
The jack is secured in place with a winged stud and a
fixed stud. It is very important to secure the jack tightly
in place by engaging the slot in the base to the fixed stud
under the middle seat. The winged stud inserts through
the eyelet in the end of the jack’s worm screw.

How do i turn off the low tire pressure warning light? I changed the flat tire.

The low tire pressure light gets a signal from each tire's (including the spare) sending unit in the valve stem. If all five of the tires are reinflated to the proper pressure the light will shut its self off. If the sensor was damaged when the tire was replaced it should be replaced with a new one.

Where is the tire lock kept on the 2002 RX 300

If you are referring to the mag wheel puzzle lock, storage is an optional location. The RX300 has a number of storage pockets, so check the spare tire area and tool kit, then the rear storage side pockets, glove box, console sliding drawer at bottom of console and your map pockets on the doors. If the puzzle key is missing , go to the dealership. They will have a matching master set and can order a replacement after identifying yours.
