ignition switch not lock cylinder may need to be addjusted it's on top side of steering column under dash

tumblers in the ignition switch and/or thew key itself is worn down and not pushing the tumblers into correct position. Only fix is to get a new switch assembley or try a fresh cut key.

To find out if it's the switch or the lock cylinder just seperate the switch from the cylinder, you will have to do this anyway so now it will be easy to find the problem

Sometimes a key may not be in all the way & this can happen, try turning it to on & make sure the key is in all the way, if it's not tap on it lightly & it may pop back in allowing you to turn it to off, also make sure it's in park if it's an automatic transmission.
