Try zeroing out computer by diconnecting negative battery cable at battery for ten minutes.

Hello Torrey,

Your two problems are not related. Not firing has nothing to do with replacing a head gasket, but to do with the ignition system. You must have unplugged or disconnected something in your ignition system in the process of changing your head gasket ?? Look for that.... Hope this helps.

2002 SAAB is releasing white smoke out of tail pipe and stalling


White smoke out the exhaust is a sign of either water in the fuel or coolant being burned with the fuel. Observe if you have any coolant consumption and if not, wait until your tank to empt and filled up with new fresh good quality gasoline and you will be allright. If you have a coolant consumption you will need a tool to pressure test the coolant system and find where is leaking. You can purchase it at Harborfreight tools. Could be head gasket, Throtllebody gasket, intake gasket and others... Good luck.

Hi guys! Own a golf 1.4 carb! 2004, I'm having problems with idel! Heavy on fuel and my compression is low now, I've changed my base plate, set the co,z on my car but still can't seem to get it...


Does exhaust smell like petrol - low on power? If so it's running on 3 or 2 legs, meaning ignition in one of the cylinders is not burning fuel. This causes irregular idle and high fuel consumption.

Low compression might indicate a leaking head gasket, worn cylinder rings. Remove the oil dipstick and check if there's pressure coming from the sump. This indicates worn cylinder rings - loss of compression.

My truck is burning oil like crazy. im always toping off in between oil changes up to 4 quarts. i dont see any oil leeks! its a 97 ford expedition 4x4 with a 4.6


This is indicative of worn piston seals, or faulty head gasket - where the oil is burned in the ignition of the gasoline.

Worn piston seals will show in blue exhaust smoke when under heavy accelleration or start-up.

My jeep seems to be losing coolant but I don't see a leak


HI. This issue has many causes. i will list the most common causes below.

Coolant consumption::: Possible causes______


1. Check the head gaskets. The gasket may be leaking.
2. Check The Intake Manifold Gasket. This gasket may be leaking, worn, or damaged
3. Check the cylinder head for worn or scorn cylinder block.(This will require total breakdown of the engine)

4. Check the water pump seal for leaks as well.

Now that we have covered the basic check points for coolant consumption, i would advise to concentrate on the head gaskets if there are no apparent leaks on or around the engine itself. If the head gaskets are worn, the leak can be introduced to the engine internally, causing the engine to burn off the coolant. this is noticeable by removing the oil cap, after a hard drive. you Will notice steam that will escape the head as soon as you remove the cap. If this is the case, your problem will be with a failed head gasket.

IN a severe case, you will notice white plums of smoke escaping from the tail pipe during acceleration.

Main causes of misfire would be loss of spark; the air/fuel mixture is too far out of balance to ignite; or loss of compression.

Loss of spark includes anything that prevents coil voltage from jumping the electrode gap at the end of the spark plug. Causes include worn, fouled or damaged spark plugs, bad wires or even a cracked distributor cap. A weak coil or excessive rotor gas inside a distributor would affect all cylinders, not just a single cylinder.

"Lean misfire" can occur when the air/fuel mixture is too lean (not enough gasoline in the mixture) to burn. This can be caused by a dirty, clogged or inoperative fuel injector; air leaks; or low fuel pressure because of a weak pump, restricted filter or leaky pressure regulator.

Loss of compression means the cylinder loses most of its air/fuel mixture before it can be ignited. The most likely causes here are a leaky (burned) exhaust valve or a blown head gasket. If two adjacent cylinders are misfiring, it's likely the head gasket between them has failed. Also, if an engine is overheating or losing coolant, it's likely the head gasket is the culprit.

You can isolate the weak cylinder by temporarily disconnecting each of the spark plug wires, one at a time, while the engine is idling. When there's no change in the idle speed, then you have pinpointed the weak cylinder.

here are the common causes of a missfire, defective ignition coil or ignition coil wiring for that cylinder, defective fuel injector, defective powertrain control module, intake manifold vacuum leak, low cylinder compression.

Upnormal consumption in gasoline


try changing the oxygen sensors this will make the biggest difference in fuel consumption. also depends on weather conditions and fuel quality in your area i know where i am at winter fuel runs alot worse then summer fuel because of the emission control additives they put in it.
