SOURCE: four wheel won't engage

Theres a vacume dash pot under the battery box. It pulls a cable that engages the front diff. Put the vacume line and you'll have lights and four wheel drive. (it happened to my blazzer)

SOURCE: I have a 1994 gmc 4x4 and the front axles wont engage

If Your Front CV shaft is broken it will not engage...Shaft can be in visibly good shape, but you might hear a knocking sound or a shutter when turning sharply. I had this problem this last winter. Get under the truck and try and turn the CV by hand. if it can be rotated, it is bad.

Well actually I don't think the bearing damaged the whole thing, Proberally they just don't want to press and and press out the new bearing cause it may not be worth their time financially.. Tell them just replace the bearing and make sure to grease it properly..

You see they will need to take out the entire assemble, then press out and press in the new bearing as opposed to take out and replace the entire assembly which they can then fix and resell. So just have them change the bearing..

I have a 1994 gmc k1500 4x4 wont go in four wheel change acuator on the front diff transfor case engage but axle dont

That truck did not use a vacuum actuator, it used an electric motor motor. If your transfer case is engaging and you can see the front drive line spinning, then you either have a bad actuator, switch, or the wiring is bad. I would recommend unplugging your actuator and checking for power at the wire while someone puts the truck in four wheel drive. If there is power going to it, then replace your actuator. if not, follow your wiring back and check all components. They also sell an aftermarket cable actuator for those trucks which are much more reliable.

I put the truck in nutruel and put in 4x4 low and my front wheels are not turning. but sound like it ingauged

When you put the controls in 4lo, the transfer case will engage, but that doesn't mean it is in4wd. The 4wd function is controlled mainly by vacuum lines. So check every vacuum line you can see. On earlier models there was a large diameter vacuum hose that went to a vacuum operated actuator hidden under the battery. It controls the switch that engages the front axle. You'l have to remove the battery and battery tray to see it. Check that hose to see if it has come loose. 90% of s10 and gmc 4wd problems can be traced back to that hose. If it is loose, you will probably have to replace it with a new hose. The old hose gets brittle and won't stay hooked up.

I have vaccum to the accuator and the accuator pulls the cable but still no four wheel drive. The four wheel drive lights up but not the front wheel lights and it is not locking in. help......

There is a clip on the pumpkin (front diff) that the 4wd cable connects to that is common to break. Easy fix, inspect the cable where it connects to the pumpkin and repair any damages found.

Thank you for using fixya and keep us posted.
