Painted the engine cover and now engine light wont go off
I painted the enginge cover and now the check engine light wont go off. I have a diagnostic tool, but I dont really know what the codes mean. The codes it showed were P0305-cylinder 5 misfire, P2314-ignition coil "E" secondary circuit, and P0113-air intake temperature sensor 1 circuit high input. When driving, car car doesnt seem to have as much power and when standing, the car sputters. As I was backing into my garage, the engine actually cut off on me last night. How do I fix this??? Thanks.

Hi Stephen, The problem with the idle speed being to high could be with the cold start up idle motor, located on the throttle body, more especially if the idle speed is erratic with surges of increasing and decreasing speeds. If the idle speed is high and without surging the problem could be a broken or loose fitting vacuum pipes. Check to make sure all are fitting tightly and they are not cracked, broken or loose. Lastly there could be a problem with the intake manifold gasket.Lack of power could be related to the above, or if your vehicle is fitted with a distributer, the ignition timing may require setting. If required, the job must be carried out with a stroboscopic timing light and a bridge connecting T to E1 inside the diagnostic socket (usually located on the fire wall above the gear box side of the engine. Paint a spot a white paint on the timing cover on the TDC mark and another in the notch on the crankshaft pulley, Start the engine and leaving it idling at 650 rpm loosen and adjust the distributer by aiming th timing light at the front pulley, moving the distributer until the painted marks align with one another. Lack of power can also be due to poor service, a clogged fuel or air filter or a fuel pump becoming lazy (Though this is unlikely as they either work or fail) Have the engine cylinder compressions tested.and make sure it is with specifications. Hope this info is some help? Regards John
1. Get a quote from a paint shop, or maybe a local "backyard" spraypainter who could probably do it cheaper. Check your phonebook for spraypainters in your area. 2. Respray the roof and trunk yourself using color-match spray cans from your local auto warehouse. You will to use masking tape and newspaper to cover the windows, windscreen, trims etc that you DON'T want painted.
In order to change your fuel pump you have to remove as much gas as possible before removing your fuel tank, then unbolt the fuel pump cover then disconnect the fuel lines and replace the pump. With the proper tools its a DIY job. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ BMW CAS3 PROGRAMMER
The A/C condenser is mounted right behind the bumper so, unless the painter covered the condenser or removed the bumper before spraying it, he painted the condenser as well. This is bad because the condenser must have air flow through it in order for the A/C to work properly. Try to have a look at the condenser, it looks like a smaller radiator mounted in front of the radiator and behind the grill / bumper. If it is painted, go back to the paint shop and demand it to be replaced. Also, have the radiator checked to be sure it isn't painted because that'll run into engine overheating issues.
There are micro switches located in the mirrors. A metal tab is broken on one of the mirrors micro switches. Take off the painted cover to your side mirrors and remove a black plastic cover that has wires coming out. The switch will come out with the cover. Inspect for damage. If the metal tab is broken off then a new side mirror will need to be purchased. Could be the drivers side or the passengers side, caution when removing the painted covers, the tabs break if your not careful with them.
