On the passager side under the dash little square black motor with hole in the middle if you remove the glove box its easyer those motor when they dont move for a long time put it to hot and gently tap it good luck pierre

That is more then likely a blend or a mode door actuator , they have plastic gears inside that strip an get stuck an then they just click .
The air temperature actuator is a 2-wire bi-directional electric motor. Two control circuits enable the actuator to operate. The control circuits use either a 0-volt or 12-volt value to coordinate the actuator movement. When the actuator is at rest, both control circuits have a value of 0 volts. In order to move the actuator, the HVAC control module grounds the appropriate control circuit for the commanded direction. The HVAC control module reverses the polarity of the control circuits to move the actuator in the opposite direction.
The mode/recirculation actuator is a 2 wire bi-directional electric motor. Two control circuits enable the actuator to operate. The control circuits use either a 0 or 12-volt value to coordinate the actuator movement. When the actuator is at rest, both control circuits have a value of 0 volts. In order to move the actuator, the HVAC control module grounds the appropriate control circuit for the commanded direction. The HVAC control module reverses the polarity of the control circuits to move the actuator in the opposite direction.
The HVAC control module determines the door position by counting motor pulses on one of the control circuits. These pulses are small voltage fluctuations that occur when the brush is shorted across 2 commutator contacts as the motor rotates. As the actuator shaft rotates, the HVAC control module monitors the voltage drop across an internal resistance to detect the pulses. The HVAC control module converts the pulses to counts with a range of 0-255 counts. The HVAC control module uses a range of 0-255 counts to index the actuator position.
Your have to figure out which side of the heater box the noise is coming from . The Temperature Valve Actuator Replacement - Right Side - the glove box needs to come out to get to it .

We just bought a 2004 Buick Rainier. Drivers side air controls work great. Passenger side is only blowing cold air even when it's set on 90 degrees. What could the problem be?


Do you have manual or automatic ? It's probably the Air Temperature Actuator - It's an electric motor inside the heater/A/C unit that controls a door that diverts air over the heater core or A/C evaporator . The HVAC - heating , ventilation , air con ,control module has the capability to set an store DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes . Could have one or two of those stored in the control module . You would need to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop that has diagnostic scanner that can check for these type codes . These codes will not turn the check engine light .on. Different system .

The HVAC control module controls the HVAC door actuators to regulate the airflow through the HVAC system. Each actuator consists of a stepper motor, a logic circuit, and a potentiometer. The potentiometer inside the door actuator allows the module to monitor the current position of the actuator drive shaft. The module supplies a 5 volt source voltage to the potentiometer on the 5 volt reference circuit. The module supplies ground to the potentiometer through the low reference circuit. The HVAC control module monitors the voltage drop across the potentiometer on the door position signal circuit. When the actuator shaft rotates, the voltage on the door position signal circuit changes. The module converts the voltage value to a count value where 1 volt is approximately equal to 51 counts.
The HVAC control module calibrates the travel range of the HVAC door actuators when it is initially powered by the battery positive voltage circuit. During calibration, the module commands the actuators in each direction until door travel is stopped. The module stores the minimum door positions and the maximum door positions of each actuator into memory. The total travel range is calculated by subtracting the minimum door position from the maximum door position. The door actuators can be calibrated again with a scan tool.

Your best bet is to take to a repair shop , the dash (instrument panel ) has to be taken out ( apart) .

It has duel climate controls. With both set to 60, driver's side blows hot while passenger's side blows cool. What does it sound like


our honda crv did this , there was a problem with the heater core being partially pluged...there ended up being a recall on heater core

Air Distribution
The HVAC control module controls the distribution of air by the use of a defrost actuator and a mode actuator. The modes that may be selected are:

The mode and defrost actuators are connected to the mode and defrost doors by a cam type linkage system. Depending on the position of the door, air is directed through the HVAC module and distributed through various ducts leading to the outlets in the dash. If the HVAC control module detects a fault with the mode or defrost doors the HVAC control module will try to drive the actuator for a predetermined amount of time, to defrost, which is the defaulted position for the mode and defrost door actuators. When the mode switch is placed in the defrost or defog positions the A/C is commanded on and the recirculation door is moved to the outside air position to help reduce window fogging. A/C is available in all modes and recirculation is only available in the panel and bi-level modes.
Circuit Description The following DTCs are for the HVAC door actuators: ?€¢
B0248 is for the defrost actuator.

I would start by having the HVAC control module checked for DTC'S -diagnostic trouble codes First . Then check the system by using scan tool data . 1

Where is the AC/Heater Control Actuator located?


Hi Joymar, The EATC module is mounted to the heater box under the dash,below the radio,to the right of HVAC controls. access through glove box opening.[remove glove box] look for module with wire & vacuum connections.if you see a linkage arm or rod,those are actuators,follow vacuum lines to control module.an actuator won't cause the fan to run,they control air flow.Automatic temp system modules are known to fail. No heat changed thermostat and just pulled the heater core which seems fine water from kitchen faucet flows thru both ways but cant find any control valve in the heater hoses to see if it is working


firs check both heater hoses are hot to the heater core after it is warmed up. If they are hot the heat cool door is not moving make sure the linkage for the actuator door is hooked up. If that isnt working test the module that moves it.If it is manually or vaccum operated there will be a heater valve inline the heater core hose. Make sure your vaccumm is supplied to the heater box from the engine. If it is staying on defrost you may be missing vaccum supply to the heater control. If it is electronically controlled the door actuator module is bad or not getting power. Sometimes the heater hand controls are the problem. sometimes the dash control separates and gives a vaccum leak.

The heat in my 2006 grand prix will not get hot. We replaced the thermostat and got nothing. So I got the radiator flush and force filled again. Still nothing. Temp of the motor still gets to the middle,...


Are the 2 tubes that go to the heater core getting hot? If so, then the blend door is not opening to allow heat to get to the cabin.

Possible vacuum motor problem, either disconnected, or the controller for the blend door is broken is likely problem.

Troubleshooting by Symptom Poor Heater System Performance CAUTION
Check all fluid levels and adjust as needed, before operating vehicle for extended periods at idle.
  1. Start the engine.
  2. Idle the engine until the thermostat opens (upper radiator hose will be hot) Is the engine at normal operating temperature (approx. 200° F)? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 16.
  3. Set the mode selector to FLOOR mode.
  4. Set the heater control selector to the warmest temperature setting.
  5. Set the blower speed the lowest setting.
  6. Carefully feel the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to step 14. If no, go to the next step.
  7. Set the mode selector to PANEL mode.
  8. Select the maximum blower speed.
  9. Select the warmest temperature setting.
  10. Place a thermometer into the center I/P PANEL air outlet and affix a second thermometer to the heater core outlet heater hose.
  11. Record the temperature at the center I/P PANEL air outlet and at the heater core outlet heater hose. Are the two temperature readings about equal? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 13.
  12. Inspect and repair the cowl, cowl area, recirculation door, and the HVAC evaporator/heater core case for cold air leaks. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  13. Inspect the temperature door operation. Repair any problems found, go to step 17.
  14. Turn OFF the engine. Back-flush the heater core. Start the engine. Select the FLOOR mode and the lowest blower speed. Select the warmest temperature setting. Feel the temperature of the inlet and outlet heater hoses at the heater core. Is the inlet heater hose feel significantly hotter than the outlet heater hose? If yes, go to the next step. If no, go to step 17.
  15. Replace the heater core. When the repair is completed, go to step 17.
  16. Check for low engine temperature problems, Repair or replace as needed, go to step 17.
  17. Operate the system in order to verify the repair. If the system operates properly, the repair is complete. If the heater still does not work properly, repeat the entire procedure.
Air Door Actuators/Motors Removal & Installation Recirculation Actuator To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Recirculation actuator (Typical) gm-10-00-3695.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and recirculation actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the recirculation actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the recirculation actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the recirculation actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the recirculation actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the recirculation actuator.
Mode Actuator To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Mode actuator gm-10-00-4356.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and mode actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the mode actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the mode actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the mode actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the mode actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the mode actuator.
Air Temperature Actuator Right Side To Remove:
  1. Remove the right lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator.
  2. Remove the glove box assembly. Air temperature actuator (right side) gm-10-00-4356.gif

  3. Remove the mounting screws and right air temperature actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  4. Disconnect the right air temperature actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the right air temperature actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the right air temperature actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the right air temperature actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the glove box assembly.
  5. Install the right lower I/P insulator.
  6. Calibrate the mode actuator.
Left Side To Remove:
  1. Remove the left lower instrument panel (I/P) insulator. Air temperature actuator (left side) gm-10-00-4357.gif

  2. Remove the mounting screws and left air temperature actuator from the HVAC module assembly.
  3. Disconnect the left air temperature actuator harness connector.
To Install:
  1. Align the left air temperature actuator slots with the flats on the actuator door shaft.
  2. Install and secure the left air temperature actuator on the HVAC module assembly with the mounting screws.
  3. Connect the left air temperature actuator harness connector.
  4. Install the left lower I/P insulator.
  5. Calibrate the mode actuator.

The control module for the ac and heater is Not let up but the buttons work can not adjust the temp in the car do I need to replace the module


this could be a bad module or a bad actuator motor , theres a motor that controls the temp door, for hot or cold air,just because it doesnt lite up means its bad, you may just have a bad actuator motor.
