check the brake lights to see if they work ithey do then the problem is in the locking mechanism, however if the brake lights sont work then first check the fuse, check the wires and the connector that hooks up to the brake switch under the pedal and if it is dammaged repair as needed and if yo get the lights working yo have made the lock to work also!!

Sounds like you might have a caliper that is stuck and is not fully disengaging. If it is in the rear then you may have a bad rear caliper. Twoo things you can try. One is to crawl under the ca and adjust the tension two nuts on the emergency brake line. If that does not resolve the problem then remove the back tire and try to spin the drum or rotor whichever you may have. If it does not spin then try adjusting the e brake cable more if it still does not respond then you need to do a brake rebuild. Also does it pull while it is dragging? If it is then you will need to rebuild the brakes no matter what.

First things first: I suggest taking your truck to a mechanic or an auto parts store that can do a diagnostics test done. If any fuses or relays are blown, this test should bring up any codes that would indicate any type of malfunctions.

The shift lever being locked: In newer vechicles, the brake pedel, as you know must be pressed in order for the transmission to be put into gear. There should be a sensor on the transmission that runs in cahoots with the brakes. This sensor tells the computer what gear the transmission is in. It is very possible that at the last time you put the vehicle in Park, that the switch had it's final moment of ability. If the sensor is in fact useless, it may be the reason the transmission is locked into Park. It may be the reason why the brake lights aren't working; and why the brake lights fuse is blowing. Also, check all relays, (can be tested with a fuse tester) and make sure all relays are good as well. Make sure also that the light sockets for the brake lights, tail lights, back up lights, and front running and blinker lights are in good condition. One faulty socket, can cause more than one bulb to blow, or cause fuses and relays to blow as well. Follow the wiring for the brake lights for as far as you can to ensure there is no damage (melted, broken, etc.). This could also affect fuses. This truck I see is barely 5 years old, but you'd be surprised how quickly parts and wiring and such will go bad, or wear out and/or just quit working.

If the transmission sensor is not the problem, and all fuses and relays are good. tranny fluid is full, check the linkage under the truck. It may be jammed somehow, or stuck. On the transmission, where the lever inserts, there is a seal - inside that seal, there is like a gear that the lever pushes in order to shift from gear to gear etc. You may need to have that checked out to make sure it's not broken inside. If your fluid is low, or empty, you may have froze up your transmission, however, you most likely would have been seeing large amounts of fluid in the frequent places you park. Another think to check is your differentials. Make sure the fluid is full in each, as well as the seals not leaking. The seal sits just inside the inner most part of the pumpkin (differential ball) where the yoke is inserted. Maybe you have just locked up the rear driveline. Check the seal on the front end of the driveline as well, (goes into the rear of the transmission (yoke). Check your U-Joints as well, making sure they are intact, tight. It may be a good idea to have them replaced if they look supsicous in any way.

These are all the things I can think of that would make your truck be stuck in park, and make your lights not work, and blow fuses.

I would say the brake Master Cylinder is worn out. Check inside all the wheels for signs of brake fluid also. You might have a blown brake line or hose.

When coming to a stop, the brakes work fine until I get almost stopped, then the pedal will push down further and brakes will come on hard, and stop vehicle hard, what could be the problem?


Sounds like your master cylinder is bad on your brake system. If you are stopped in your driveway(not on the street) leave the vehicle in park. Start the car and place your foot on the brake with light pressure and keep this pressure on the pedal. If the pedal continues to drop slowly to the floorboard your master cylinder is leaking past the primary piston in the master cylinder. If this is the case have this repaired immediately. Your brakes could just all of a sudden not be there the next time you apply them when you need to stop.

My 2002 Mustang is stuck in park...what to do?


Sounds like your car is equipt with a brake shift interlck which means that you cannot change the vehicle out of park unless the brake pedal is pushed in. There are a couple of things that could be wrong. the interlock switch could be bad or your brake lights are not working. This will cause this. Now for what you really want to know. To get your vehicle out of park you have to do the procedure: With the ignition switch in the on position and the brake pedal depressed, apply the parking brake. Then turn the key to the LOCK position and remove the key. Then put the key back in and turn it to the OFF position. Then push the brake pedal in and at this point you will be able to put the vehicle into the neutral position and be able to start the vehicle and put into the gears of your choice. Here are some things you can check that may be causing this and that is fuses. There are 3 fuses to check. they are in the fuse panel located inside the vehicle to the left of the steering wheel by the brake pedal. I gave you a diagram of the layout of the fuses below. The fuses you want to check will be the number 33 fuse which should be a 15 amp fuse and is for the stop lamps. The second fuse you want to check is the number 35 fuse which is for the shift lock acuator and the last fuse which is the most common to cause this is the number 41 fuse which is for the brake lamp. Stop lights not working, replaced fuse #21 7.5 amp according to owners manual, still not working. This causes lock out (can't pull shift lever out of park, have to push little button on console to pull...


each vehicle has a switch that when you press the brake pedal it makes contact. look up under your dash towards the top of the pedal. you can manually press it. either your pedal is not making contact or the switch is bad.

96 F250 can't shift out of park


NOTE: Your vehicle is equipped with a

brake-shift interlock feature. This

feature prevents you from shifting

from P (Park) unless you have the

brake pedal depressed. (The ignition

must be in the ON position.) If you

cannot shift from P (Park) with the

brake pedal depressed:


1. Apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the key.

3. Insert the key and rotate one position
clockwise (ignition in the OFF position).

4. Apply the brake pedal and shift to N

(Neutral). (If the vehicle is shifted to P

(Park), you must repeat the previous steps.)

5. Start the vehicle.


If you need to shift out of P (Park) by using the

alternate procedure described above, it is

possible that a fuse has blown and that your

brakelamps may also not be functional.


WARNING

DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL

YOU VERIFY THAT THE BRAKELAMPS
ARE WORKING.

check fuse 13 based on the attached diagram.

If this fuse is bad replace it. If it is not bad, blows again, or continues to be stuck in park then you need a new brake interlock switch that can be found on the brake pedal up underneath the dash.mustang_guru_2.jpg

Ignition switch will not turn on. Battery is good. Steering wheel is locked, What should we do?


Quite often that will happen when vehicle parked with wheels turned, and/or vehicle on a slope, so try to avoid that in future.If nothing else, when parked on a slope, stop, keep foot on brake pedal, apply parking brake, put transmission in neutral, then take foot off brake pedal and wait for parking brake to stop vehicle rolling, then shift it into park. When leaving, put foot on brake pedal, shift to drive or reverse whatever direction your going, then release parking brake. Sounds like a lot to remember but you won't have to pull hard on shifter as before, and it could save a lot of money on transmission repairs down the road. Always try to park with wheels straight as well.
Now, with that said, if you parked with wheels turned, try hard to turn steering wheel in same direction wheels are turning, just slightly, as you try to turn key. Sometimes a quick yank in that direction will do it. Also make sure shifter is all the way in park before you try it. If your on a slope try rocking vehicle slightly up slope as you push/pull shift lever in to park and try to turn key at same time. If no luck, try pushing brake pedal real hard and try to turn key. Let me know how it goes.

Parking Brake Fault light is coming on? I reset the battery and it keeps coming on. It starts with the "apply parking brake" light and then when you take off, it goes to a parking brake fault? Please...


This is a common fault often caused by low battery voltage, before you start taking expensive actions with the park brake modules etc get your battery checked for 100% efficiency.

2003 S type is stuck in Park


it could be one of two things : 1- The brake pedal sensor which is located under the breke pedal. 2- the transmission handle electric lock , that is supposed to release when you push the brake pedal.

Brake problems


Thank you for allowing me to assist you, Before we do anyhing, I need some additional information.
Please respond to the following 5 questions so that I may be able to help you better.
Is you vehicle front disc/rear drum or front disc/rear disc?
When were the brakes changed last?
If so, front or rear?
If you apply the park brake, does the vehicle move at all when you put it in gear?
Finally, I am understanding that the brake pedal goes to the floor, you have no resistance on the pedal, and the vehicle does not stop when applying the brakes. Da?
