Manual shift will not engage in gears

My 2000 Hyundai Accent will not shift gears. The shifter is loose to move. We checked the cables and they are attached the linkage but it is not engaging the gears. Can you help me with this problem?

Tried that but it wouldn't shift at gear box. Before this I have had no problems and heard no noise right before this happened. I was changing from 2nd to 3rd when it stopped working. Think your answer may be right but how do I fix this?

Sounds like the selector fork on your gear box has gone, I warn you now its a very expensive overhaul, however it could be clutch related, which would be the cheaper option!

Hi from uk just out of curiosity ? with engine off try selecting a gear manually by moving the selector link at gearbox from engine compartment if you can feel a selection ? then press clutch and start engine see if car moves with clutch slowly engaged ? if it does? then would suspect the actual g/stick vertical part that fits into the cables gate/selection has broken ? come back with update ? and please give history prior to this fault occuring ?as it would give more of idea what may have gone wrong ?

thanks for update if you were in 2nd then selection was to 3rd but failed? and now unable to select any gears this may well be the cable 1st+2nd gear is sticking rusulting in gate selector that should have all gear s in neutral?position so allowing select of another gear ? the gate plungers are not aligned ie one of the gears (2nd)? may be out of line this may be inner cable frayed? or cable has loosened / snapped inside

Make sure the brake lights are coming on if not the release solenoid that unlocks park gets no power and will not release the shifter from park position. Also check the owner's manual for a possible way to override the solenoid lock.

Hyundai accent won't shift out of park

You do have your foot on the brake when trying to shift ehh. If so could be a faulty brake to shifter cable.
Remove the center console and check that applying the brake de-activates the lock on the shifter

2000 sable- can't shift out of park. shifter glides and needle on dash moves there's no gears shifting. is the transmission blown?

Not likely a blown transmission. More of a shifter cable issue. There is an adjustment nut on the ****** end. It could be loose or missing. If the nut is fine you have a broken cable.

My car is stuck in second gear, the stick shift is just flopping back and forth. I can not change gears so I am driving with my hazards on and 20mph in second gear. Any thoughts

Is it a stick shift or auto tranny?

If stick shift then the shift fork may be bent thus why it's stuck or

A tranny mount is bad causing the tranny to lean on the shifter mechanism

Or you need a clutch adjustment.
