The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

SOURCE: oil pressure warning light on my audi a4 2005

The car has entered into fail safe mode. It wil not allow the engine to rev high but allows you only to get to a mechanic or to get some oil into the engine. What's the level like? Is there any trace of leakeage?

SOURCE: rattle when accelerating

had the same issue, had someone look and it seems the noise was caused by heat shield being loose covering exhaust system. Have that checked out.

Check your MAF and MAP sensor. The first 80% of your throttle signal from the TPS works with the O2 sensor to try to keep the air fuel ratio to 14.7 to 1 with the ECM controlling the fuel injector spray time and timing the ignition. After the 80% to WOT the ECM puts the O2 sensor in to an open loop and takes the Reading form the MAF and MAP sensor to run the engine richer so there will not be any Detonation to the engine and burning holes in the valves for running too lean. That is why it always feel like you get a little more when you ease off on the gas peddle from WOT. Recap check the TPS, MAF,and MAP sensor and wires to those sensors, if you can get the car scanned that would be great and you may find out which sensor may have gone bad, the other thing to is the fuel pressure regulator may be going bad and at WOT the pressure may be to high causing it to run to rich causing the loss of power. Struggles accelerate


This is a hard question. When was the last time you did a tune up?
Dirty oil? clogged air or fuel filter?
a 1.6L engine isn't the fastest thing on 4 wheels. Did you have a full tank of gas, trunk loaded with heavy stuff. Other people with you? Your Max power band and max torque band is right around 4000 rpms. Don't try to pass when your at 2500 rpms because 4 cylinders have no power in lower rpm ranges and don't go into the red area either.

Where you in overdrive? Headwind?
Possible the other driver had a faster car?

Turbo / Boost Issues


Sounds like a faulty boost pressure sensor or waste gate. I would check the waste gate first. Sounds like it is opening to soon and letting the boost out, than regaining again.

Sounds like your fuel filter is getting clogged up. Get that changed and it will be fixed. Should be an easy, cheap fix. Hope this helps, James Booth :))

Wish I had an answer - sounds very much like a problem I am having with my '92 LS400. I have a parts car, and have changed out the ECM, fuel pump, injectors, fuel pilter, fuel pressure regulator, ran the can with exhaust unbolted (check for clogged CATs, checked out my timing belt for slippage amoung other things, and nothing works. I have no check engine light on. Do you?

Car lost power and started putting out black


The rubber pipe feeding air from the intercooler to the bottom of the EGR valve is probably split - this was the problem on mine - exact same symptoms!

It sounds like a fuel delivery issue so it could be many things such as low fuel pressure from the pump,clogged or partially pluged fuel filter, a malfunctioning throttle posisitioning sensor (if you have a check engine light on) or if its turbo it could be turbo lag etc.

Funny noise on drivers side and loss of power during acceleration


ok its a thought off my head that i can think of right off
the brake on drivers side is binding and the squiller pin i call it is rubbing on rotor you probably need a brake inspection there free at brake masters
