I'd get second opinion from transmission repair place, but it does sound like an inspection is in order. Nothing against your mechanic, but transmission places are more experienced in these matters, and it may save you time & money in long run. Remember, an estimate does not mean you have to commit to repair right then & there.

SOURCE: hyundai excel 1996 automatic will engage reverse

It appears you have a Forward Clutch FAILURE. Replace the trans after you get it diagnosed and verified by a professional technician. By the way, do you have a Check Engine light? If so, what is the diagnostic code? The dealership can scan the system and find any codes which may have been stored in the TCM (Transmission Control Module). If there were any 'Incorrect Gear Ratio" codes, it's most probably the trans itself.

SOURCE: oil leak from driveshaft n/s

not sure if you can interchange the manual & aut shafts, but you should check to see if there is excessive play where the shaft enters the gear box if so the diff bearings my be worn, if there is no play or noises from gear box when driving, remove the shaft again an try the seal on the shaft to check it's a proper fit, before fitting seals it is a good idea to leave them soaking in oil for a few hours prior to fitting

hope this helps

Regards

Jim

Hyundai Getz leaks near pedals when raining

My Getz is also having similar problem. I have thrice got water test done from Hyundai server center. After 2nd test they put some sealants underbody and return the car, but still water was leaking in. 3rd time water test, hyundai said its all fine, no problem but still problem persists. It happens when it rains only, so I dont suspect air-con filters or radiator problems. Water pool is created in driver side footwell only. During heavy rain, I tried to troubleshoot but couldnt find any fault point from where water might be leaking inside. Its second year, I have running into this problem, creating stinking smell inside the car due to wet mats. Looks like I need to do away with my car.

Bottomed my 98 jeep cherokee in ruts discovered a oil leak broke is it possible it that it broke the seal loose on the oil pan when it hit. its in that area around the oil filter and cooler lines

If you dented the pan, it's possible but still not real likely that the rail gasket was damaged but I'd actually look at it real closely and first, see if it's trans fluid or engine oil that's leaking, then clean everything off, start it, and find the exact leak source. I've broken the trans cooler lines at least three times going off-road, in the same place you say yours is leaking....The last time it happened, I re-routed them to keep it from happening again.

After sliding on ice and hitting a kerb, the dsc system fault warning has come on. Is the car safe to drive?

Hi Martin,

You are the man on the scene. You are in a much better position to make that call. From my stand point, this is what I know:
  • The vehicle struck a kerb at an unknown angle, at an unknown speed, doing unknown damage.
  • The vehicle is trying to tell you something is wrong
  • There may or may not still be ice on the road.
Based on that, I'd say no, you are gambling with a brake system failure.

However, I'm guessing you drove it away from the 'Kerb'. I don't know how it drove for you.

I will suggest this, if you have AAA or your insurance covers it, get it towed to a reputable repair shop and have it professionally checked.

A car that doesn't go, is inconvenient.
A car that doesn't stop, can seriously ruin the Holidays. Not worth the risk. I'm trying to give you the best, most responsible, potentially life saving advice I can here.

TWO MORE ITEMS:
  1. If anyone gives you conflicting advice, consider this, WHAT IF THEY"RE WRONG? They aren't getting in the car with you,
  2. When it comes time to rate, Please don't shoot the messenger.
Get it checked, be safe.

Best regards,

Mike

Oil is leaking from bottom of engine after hitting bottom on a rough road

You need to look to see where the damage is. Did the oil pan drain plug get damaged. Did it damage a transmission line.

I have a 1993 940 Volvo that is overheating and I do not think it is the radiator. We replaced the thermostat last night and I had no problems this morning then this afternoon when I was driving home it...

Make sure the electric fans are operating as they should.
Check for a blocked radiator core,
Check water pump drive OK,
Get a radiator shop to do 'coolant gas check' for a blown head gasket (looks for combustion gas bubbles in the water system).

My car died

Oil all over the road sounds like something serious broke...you will need to examine this closely to determine where oil is coming from and how much internal damage was done. As for the intake, It is possible, but I would hold everything suspect till all the facts are in.

Oil pressure stop motor

My 2003 1.8L Passat at 62K indicated Oil Pressure, Stop Engine. I had been low on oil for longer than I realized, though the car didn't indicate to me anything. I added a quart 5-40 synthetic as usual, and about 300 miles mid way on a road trip is when the warning lit up!
I had been to the dealer last year and there was a mention of sludge developing in these cars. They suggested I bring it in to remove sludge but life got busy, and it never happened. Evidently this model Passat is notorious for this oil sludge problem.
My Passat needed a new oil pump $800 later half way between destination and home. Luckily I was in a town with a 30 VW mechanic who was very good. The sludge (carbon deposits) had blocked pump pickup. Oil level was good. The computer didn't show anything, but the oil pressure test discovered PSI went down when RPM's went up. Not good.
This problem is very serious as it has ruined engines. I guess I was lucky in the fact that nothing else was damaged. So you may look into this build up. It sounds terribly familiar.

Where`s the oil filter hiding?

Have a look at picture; to see filter (item #2) you must remove engine bottom dust cover.
