Wires mixed up where plug fits onto distributor (cut off)

Car wont start - no spark on distributor - have replaced with 2nd hand one - still problem persists

    Nissan Skyline 2.0GLSi 1994 RB20E motor (New era 6 cyl) (South Afrca)The wiring harness that plugs into the distributor (4 wires) was damaged & plug cut off & thrown away . The wires were then plugged in idividualy (lugs) into distributor. I think the wires are mixed up. Anybody know where I may source a wiring diagram?

close the hood trunk all the doors locthe doors wait until the alarm quits this has tobe done with the red light below the inst cluster in the out position unlock the door get in close door just turn on the key push and hold the red light inuntil the lights on dash go out now start the car

SOURCE: changed spark plugs and wires now car wont start

I know this might be obvious but the obvious is often the problem. Did you replace the coil wire that goes from your coil to the distributor cap? Also, double check to be sure that your wires are connected in the correct order. A little more clarification might help. Does it turn over? Does it just click? When you turn the ignition key then let off does the car clunk or make a wheezing sound?

these jeeps are famous for the crank sensor going when the car wont run check the injector circuit it will show no voltage if you change the crank sensor make sure you hold it in when you tighten the bolt if you start the engine and start getting misfire codes loosen the crank sensor push it in just a little bit more you only have a few thousands of an inch it makes a difference . new sensors have a cardboard circle glued on them to prevent you from pushing it in so it hits the flywheel i had an issue where it had to be pushed in twice to run right auto parts store 38.00 dealer wanted 170.00 i bought the 38.00 one hope this helps

After replacing my distributor on my 89 toyota corolla it wont start


It is possible that if you replaced the distributor, you simply have the plugs in the wrong firing order. Another possibility is that you need new spark plugs, wires, plugs, distributor rotor and possibly a distributor cap. A long shot problem is the ignition coil, but since you have spark in one plug, it is unlikely.

I have a 2003 is 300 coming down from south padfre it overheadted , i replaced radiator spark plugs . now car crank but it wont start it feels like it does not have any compression at all


When car overheated the steam heats the distributor same time remove distributor cup and check if is clean and dry, 2nd remove spark plugs and give compression test check your coil two stay dry and clean.

Turns over but wont start


With limited information , I would have to say start with checking, all fuses under the dash first.then check to see if its getting fuel , and if theres spark. The easiest way i found to do this is to take the top of the air cleaner off via the wing nut or bolt in the center, set aside ,use a flashlight to look into the tbi unit which looks like a carborator,stand on side of vehicle keep hands and face back as to not get hurt, and have someone turn the engine over, as its cranking there should be fuel squirting into the venturi to go into the engine if not possible bad fuel pump. to check for spark the safest way is to use a spark tester found at your local auto parts dealer or tool store harbor freight for $3.00, you unplug any of your spark plug wires plug it into wire and onto the spark plug, and again have someone crank the engine over, if no spark check all elecrical connections, if good check distributor cap and rotor which is behind the aircleaner, remove the aircleaner housing noting where the hoses went that you unhook set aside, theres two bolts on the sides of the cap i think there either 6 or 7 mm gently pull cap up being careful not to unhook the plug wires, turn sideways so you can look inside youll see silver nubs 6 for 6 cylinder 8 for 8 cylinder should be clean if not replace, also youll notice a plastic disk that spins inside the cap still attached to the distributor should have a small spring like peice of metal in center also should be clean and a little metal tab sticking out one end this should be clean as well , if these are all good then possible bad distributor control module its under the rotor two small bolts hold it in place and it plugs into your wiring harness. to reasseble just start here and read upward. pictures 1st distributor cap and rotor, 2nd is distributor control module, third the air cleaner assembly 4th is the tbi unit

Just fitted a 2nd hand engine,cranks over but wont start.got some spark,lots of fuel lots of compression,how do i check ignition circuit and fuel system??


Remove number one spark plug, put a cloth small enough on the thread of spark plug hole to bloke the air from piston number 1 as you rotate the pulley crankshaft, once you hear an air hissing and scaping from number on piston at any moment it will throw out the small cloth on that spark plug hole.That is the number one to ignite. And on the distributor cap, the rotor point mark as the number one high tension wire.connect this wire cable to number one spark plug. I hope this will guide you.

Car started and ran fine, quit while driving and now there is no spark and turns over.


Hello first of all

In reading your issue at hand not having no spark there is only a few things that can cause this being that its a 1988 car i will list below what you need to go over and check.

1.spark plug wires
2. distributor cap
3. ignition rotor
4. coil pick up
5. faulty distributor

That being said most are a easy and cheap fix plug wires run about 20-35 bucks autozones duralast brand , distributor cap runs between 7-18 bucks , ignition rotor 3-8 bucks , coil pick up about 15-30 bucks all at autozone.

Now there is no real way to tell if there bad but a good examination of the distributor cap and rotor should tell you corroded inside cracked worn down.

i would start with distributor cap , ignition rotor, coil pick up if the car starts after this replace spark plugs wires. If that does not fix it most likely you distributor is faulty itself.

Replace the spark plugs and wires along with a distributor cap and rotor. Be careful to leave the old wires and plug wires connected to dist.cap, just remove dist. cap from the distributor and lay aside with plug wires on it then install rotor then new cap and proceed to replace each wire for cap and spark plug one at a time so you don't mix up the spark plug wire firing order. Cap laying to the side is used for reference purpose.

D4 light flashing when trying to start car


You may have got water into the distributor cap and or the spark plug wires where they go onto the plugs.
Take the dizzy cap off and blow it out making sure there is no moisture in it when you replace it, do the same to the spark plug leads on both ends.
