1995 2wd surburban with no owner's manual

What's the recommended interval for the auto trans fluid. It's at 171k now and drives great and I think the fluid was changed at 100k by origianal owner. How soon should l be thinking about having it serviced? also, what's the proper way to check the fluid level- warm fluid and the selector in neutral??

Auto trans not shifting right

you really did not provide much detail info...
mileage of vehicle and conditions driven are important factors.
however... as a rule the first thing I would do in this case is take it to a facility that you trust and have the tranny fluid and filter changed. auto trans' are hydraulic system that require the fluid to maintain certain pressures to work properly. even with normal driving this should be done as a regular maintenance item. check your owners manual for the recommended cycle.

How often to change tranmission fluid on a 2002 lincoln ls

Hi Gary,

There is a small dilema here. The Owner's Manual for your Lincoln says to refer to the Maintenance schedule to find the proper interval for replacing your transmission fluid. Here is where the problem arises: The Maintenance schedule published for your vehicle says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals for several transmission models. Then it "excepts" the models that are not lsted by transmission model number in the preceeding text - yours is not listed.

Then, when I go to the service manual and search by your vehicle (2000 Lincoln LS) it says to replace the transmission fluid at 30,000 mile intervals without any exceptions.

Here is what I recommend to my customers:

CHECK the fluid every 30,000 miles and REPLACE the fluid and filter every 60,000 miles. I have found that this works for almost every make and model out there. I have several customers with over 300,000 miles on their cars that have never had transmission overhauls.

Where is the dipstick located for the transmission fluid on a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

According to the owners manual unless you drive in hilly, or heavy stop and go traffic like a taxi, you should never have to add trans mission fluid unless you have a leak. The manual doesn't even give a fluid capacity for the auto transmission. So I guess when you have to have the auto trans. filter changed, you have to take the car to a transmission specialist. If in fact the filter even needs to be changed. The manual leaks you to believe that the transmission fluid and filter are lifetime products.

It is probably the mass air flow sensor, you can try cleaning the small wire inside it (windex works the best) but chances are it will fault again soon after. replacing it is your best option.

What are the service interval for items on the 2006 toyota prado

For oil and filter - every 3 -5,000 miles. rotate tires at same interval. air filter is on condition, so check it at oil change and clean it until it needs replacement. trans. fluid is on condition along with filter or I believe 60k miles. Belts and hoses are every 3 years or based on condition. Get a maintenance guide from an auto parts store or go to the dealer for an owner's manual, which will have all of this information.

When do I change automatic transmission fluid?

Your manual will recommend when to change. I would recommend every 20k miles or 2 years. This is the most neglected maintenance. Change intervals depend on the type of driving u do (more often if u tow something, do lots of stop and go driving, etc. I don't think u tow w/ a corolla!). U can only drain a portion of the fluid. Most torque converters hold more fluid than can be drained, and they are sealed. The only way to drain them is to drop the tranny, or pull the engine to get the torque converter off. Watch out for trans. fluid change offered by the fast lube type places. All some of them do is jam a hose down the fill tube and **** out what they can. You'll be left w/ a dirty trans filter and poor fluid change. Many vehicles have a magnet to catch metal filings floating around from normal wear and tear. This junk will remain in your trans. pan if you don't remove the pan to change fluid. Congrats for not neglecting your tranny! Most people don't worry about it 'til it stops shifting,countrycurt0
