Not sure what year,make model or engine size this van is but if it is a ford i would start by having the ignition control module tested, sounds like it heats up and dies out and then cools down and van restarts.

If it is full of fluid, I doubt there is much you can do without pulling the pan and the valve body.
Could be a faulty pump, or solenoid, or other issue.
A mechanic would check pressure in the line to the radiator first.
