Honda vf1000r won't start. Can I jump across starter posts or wires somewhere easily until I have time to track down problem?

check for a blown fusible link between the battery and ignition switch

  • a small length of wire inserted in the thinner cable from,
or
  • a small black bodied square box inside a case on the side of,
the battery connector, I forget which goes on the celica

starter wont click because there's not enough "juice" to turn it over. this isnt because of the battery as you have just replaced it. it is due to a bad alternator recharging the battery as you drive. if it were only a fuse it would be the solenoid in the starter. but if it had started after you installed the battery then its not the solenoid. solution: buy a refurbished alternator and

It's when the security light starts flashing that the infamous "chip" in the key becomes a nightmare to many. Gradually the car begins not cranking anymore or if it cranks it would start and die in a second. Randomly it will do this more and more often until it won't start anymore. VATS, PASSkey and Passlock immobilizer systems are killing cars all over North America, they have a short lifespan and are certainly more effective against owners than thieves. Here is how you save your car
1st trick, Try a spare key that is newer or used less. The pins wear down and so do the keys causing security fail. 2nd trick, (if not starting) turn the key forward 2 clicks till right before it would normally start, leave like that for 10 minutes. ( no less ) After 10 minutes, turn key back then forward and your car might start. I did this in my regal for more than a year. If its shutting down while running, im sorry i have no quick fix... Cheap fix: Bypass the chip in your key. Temporary, but effective. Until the TDM (theft deterrent module) in the dash poops out, then you're kinda screwed. I was told that these types of key security systems have a 7-10 year life span. Sucks for us. This link explains the "Key Issue" pretty well.

Never worry again fix: Bypass the whole VATS/Passlock/passkey I or passkey II system entirely. Literally take it out, and throw it away. I just did this in my Regal. Took about an hour. Took longer to find the thing than it did to fix the problem. They sell a unit for 200 bucks to totally bypass this system FOREVER. life time-money back and all that. Finally did this in my car. Well worth the 200 if you've looked into getting this replaced... Anywhere from 600-1000 bucks. If you do buy this, please purchase it thru this link. Any GM or Isuzu Vehicle with VATS or PASSKey or PASSLock security systems.

Yes, jump across actuation post(wire from switch)to the battery connection post with the switch on and in park and it will crank over to start.

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited has a new battery but won't start. When I try to jump start it, it just makes a clicking sound but won't start.


Most likely you have a bad connection somewhere. Trace the battery cables and clean/tighten all terminals or try jumping to a different lug. You might also try removing the starter and jumping directly to the starter to verify that it is good.

I have 2001 mercury courage replace alternator 2wks ago ran great. Now today will not start. Tried to start and it would click when I turned key now won't do anything doesn't have any power....


Could quite possibly be you have a bad starter. I would have it tested. Could also be a bad battery. If, when jumping it, you used too high of a voltage, could have shorted out a wire somewhere

Back track. Somewhere you left something undone or hooked up wrong when you installed the alarm. Another is to check the amperage on the battery as you may have ruined it by letting it go dead on you. Happens you know. The "click" is that the solenoid is not getting enough juice to turn the car over so like I said, "back track" your work. For voltage checks, you can get a simple 12 volt checker or meter at your hardware store.

Ignition problem... No signal from ignition to solenoid...run a starter draw test to confirm starter is ok --- You can run your jump wires to a remote starter button or switch to get around it for now.

I have a 1997 Honda Accord ... the battery is okay ... it won't click or turn over ... the Hazard Lights are on continuously ... the car will start with a rolling start (it is a manual transmission)...


Hi, have you tried to bypass the interlock switch on the clutch pedal arm? Just ground the blue wire. also check the 50 amp fuse #42. if not that, the starter relay may be bad or possibly the starter itself. Check your starter solenoid. Sometimes the wires loosen, or the solenoid just goes bad. Check to make sure all wires are firmly attached. Hope this helps.

2004 Honda Civic V-6 engine wont crank at times, sometimes it will work for six or so start-ups then nothing for several key cyclings. I have had the battery out recently and that is when the problem...


honda civic engine should be 1.7 base or v-tech 4 cylinder.make sure the car is in park or if it is a stick that the clutch switch is engaged with the pedal down and the park brake set. You may want to have someone sitting in the car to hold the brake. check the power to the starter wire if it is getting power to the solenoid start wire the small wire with the push on clip. If it is you can try to jump the starter solenoid blade to the battery cable post on the starter solenoid. I use a short wrench anything metal dont touch anything but the post to the blade or it will ground out and make sparks. If you prefer to bench test the starter you wuld have to remove the starter first. some hondas have a computer chip securty that interupts the starter the one I saw had an eye you can put your finger in it its rounded on one end with the hole to put your finger through it on that end and the other end is sqare. If that isnt slid into the slot. The car wont start. bottom line I think your starter solenoid is bad replace the starter after the jump test on the starter if it doesnt turn over.
