2000 GMC Jimmy starts then dies right away, other times runs fine
It could either be your fuel pump or the spark coil sensor..the coil spark sensor is located in the left side of your engine towards back ..this is the part that has a spark plug wire that comes from your distributor cap and to your coil. next to the coil there is a aluminum spark sensor that is mounted with two small screws and is has a measurement oF 2 x 2 inches . well this is sensor that sends information to your vehicles memory and safe functions panel..and if this is not functioning then the computer is inputting negative information on the spark to your engine and it will start to cause unstable starting complications, this spark sensor will send negative spark intervals to the vehicles system , then your system functions will start to stop working, it will shut off ,then its okay to start ect. its function purpose is to tell engine !! you better not start because you're not getting constant spark to burn the fuel and you're not going anywhere!!! if this is not working properly then these are some of the symptoms you might just be getting ..i hope this is a start on your research solution to your suv ..it was a solution that helped me resolve my problem on my 2000 jimmy SLE that i you just posted..part of my research also indicated that others causing this would be, spark plugs were not good and to check them , make sure to check spark plug wires , gas pump going faulty , gas filter, fuel injectors were dirty, and last one the air filter..good luck !! my total time and effort expense was about 1 hour in research and about 80.00 in parts cost and 30 min. in personal labor time..its a simple repair if your a hands on person , there is no under the hood work and there is no disassembling nothing but unscrewing 2 screws with star drivers # 15 or 20 / or straight philips screw driver..its a piece of cake!! NOTE:This is only a tip not a solution based from my experience ,this was my personal solution to my 2000 jimmy SLE when having similar issues..make sure you make the proper research and have at least had 3 to 4 opinions from professional or knowledgeable people before conducting any work . its better to be safe than having to find yourself in a dangerous situation..good luck and god bless.
