I changed the batteries in my key fob for a Renault Megane 1999 E RT 1.4, the light comes on the fob when you press the button but it wont turn off the immobiliser and the remote central locking doesn't work either.
I dont know why it wont work?
Someone suggested that i turn ignition on and press button on key for 10 secs and that should fix it but it hasn't.
Will I need to get a new key??
Any help or info would be great!

i have not tried this myself but i have been reliably informed that it should work on the 99 renaults
With ignition off, press and hold the key fob button, after about 10 seconds the light on the key will stop flashing, press the key fob button three times and if the key will resyncronise it will at this point operate the locking system.
the pins on the lazer bulb in your keyfob has snapped off caused buy pressing the button too hard. (the red light will still come on but the key wont work)
heres what to do
open your keyfob and pull the lazer bulbs pins to the other side of the chip board. solder it to the wrong side where you see the nipples (dont worry there still in the right place) and shove a bit of bog roll in there to stop the chip board moveing when you press the button
there will be a combination of button presses required to reconfigure your fob to the immobiliser. you dont need to get it recoded so dont pay for it. try these:
hold the a button down for ten seconds until the light comes on constantly. then press it twice quickly and it will reprogram.
or press lock about ten times, then open ten times. this should work.
i had this problem on a rover and just pressing the buttons loads of times may allow it to be reprogrammed.
also check the battery isnt upside down in the fob.
work it manually and it should work ...ie put the key in the door and open and lock the door 3 times slowly then jump in and try to start within 15 secs .if it doesnt work then be prepared to be fleeced and lay the golden egg at the dealers
