Question about 2004 Saturn VUE

Open Question

U2106 cranks fine, no start. Loss of ECM communications when cranking. No codes. No tranmission communication BCM sets U2106 with key turned on every time. Spark is erratic, Fuel pressure is good. 52psi. No injector pulse U1000 sets in SIR module. There is no ABS system on this car.

i bet the coolant temp sensor is bad,,,when the sensor cracks coolant leaks into and wrecks it and then the coolant leaks thru the sensor and into the harness,,,and this causes the car to dump too much fuel because the computer is seeing a temp that is not real and therefore the air fuel mixture is off and flooding the car,,,typical issue,replace the coolant temp sensor and then harness,,like $75 for both at saturn,,do not by the aftermarket ones,yes the cost less but they are junk and will not work either,,,also i bet if you put the gas pedal to the floor or pump it when this happens i bet the car starts and smokes when it does,,,,saturn redsigned the sensor for this reason,it was plastic and they made it brass so now it can not crack and leak,the aftermarket ones are still plastic junk

2007 Saturn Vue while driving, speedometer stops working and trans starts shifting funny


The electronics involved are unique to say the least .
Speedometer
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the vehicle speed based on the information from the body control module (BCM). The engine control module (ECM) calculates the vehicle speed based on the controlled area network (CAN) serial data message indicating the wheel reference speed from the electronic brake control module (EBCM). The ECM sends a CAN serial data message to the BCM indicating the vehicle speed. The BCM sends a class 2 message to the IPC indicating the vehicle speed.
The speedometer defaults to 0 km/h (0 mph) when any of the following occur:
• The EBCM detects a malfunction in the vehicle speed sensor circuit.
• The ECM detects a loss of CAN communications with the EBCM.
• The BCM detects a loss of CAN communications with the ECM.
• The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the BCM.

Is the ABS light lit ? Having the vehicle checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes would be the best first step to finding the problem . Could be a wheel speed sensor or ?????? .

My 2007 Uplander won't start. We've replaced to battery and starter relay. Still won't even click when trying to start.

Here is how your's works

For ignition switch power modes refer to Body Control System Description and Operation . When the ignition switch is placed in the Start position a discrete signal is supplied to the body control module (BCM) notifying it that the ignition is in the Start position. The BCM then sends a message to the engine control module (ECM) notifying it that CRANK has been requested. At the same time the BCM is supplying 12 volts for the IGN 1 relay closing it and supplying battery positive voltage for the crank relay coil. The ECM verifies that the transmission is in Park or Neutral. If it is, the ECM grounds the control circuit of the crank relay. When this occurs battery positive voltage is supplied through the switch side of the crank relay to the S terminal of the starter solenoid.

Sorry but your best bet would be to take it to a qualified repair shop ! Or the Chevy dealer . Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM !

DTC P0615 Starter Relay Control Circuit

Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, verify that no starter relay, theft deterrent, or automatic transmission DTCs are set that would cause the ECM to disable starting.
? If DTCs are set, refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
Ignition ON, observe the scan tool BCM Starter Switch parameter. Place ignition switch in the crank position, the parameter should display ON.
? If not the specified value, refer to Power Mode Mismatch .
Transmission range selector in park , verify the scan tool ECM PNP Switch and TCM IMS parameters display Park/Neutral.
? If the TCM IMS parameter does not indicate Park/Neutral, refer to Transmission Internal Mode Switch Logic .
? If the ECM Park/Neutral parameter does not indicate Park/Neutral, refer to ECM Park Switch Circuit Malfunction.
Transmission range selector in park or neutral, attempt to start the vehicle. The starter relay should click and the engine should begin cranking.
? If the starter relay does not click or the engine does not crank, refer to Starter Relay Circuit Malfunction.

Power to many of this vehicle's circuits are controlled by the module that is designated the Power Mode Master (PMM). This vehicle's PMM is the Body Control Module (BCM). The PMM controls which power mode (Run, Accessory, Crank, Retained Accessory Power, or Off) is active.

Serial Data Power Mode
On vehicles that have several control modules connected by serial data circuits, one module is the power mode master (PMM). On this vehicle, the PMM is the body control module (BCM). The PMM receives 3 discrete ignition switch signals to differentiate which power mode will be sent over the Serial Data circuits. The table below illustrates the state of these inputs in correspondence to the ignition switch position:

Do you know how to do automotive electrical testing , with a volt meter . Check out videos on youtube basic automotive electrical testing . Do you have a scan tool ? That would be a good first step . Do you have any idea how many elctronic control modules are on your vehicle ? Do you know what a serial data communication network is . Circuit Description (Key Start)
For ignition switch power modes refer to Body Control System Description and Operation . When the ignition switch is placed in the Start position a discrete signal is supplied to the body control module (BCM) notifying it that the ignition is in the Start position. The BCM then sends a message to the powertrain control module (PCM)/engine control module (ECM) notifying it that CRANK has been requested. At the same time the BCM is supplying 12 volts for the IGN 1 relay closing it and supplying battery positive voltage for the crank relay coil. The PCM/ECM verifies that the transmission is in Park or Neutral. If it is, the PCM/ECM grounds the control circuit of the crank relay. What you need to do is have it towed to the dealer !

Not resigtering it is in park. so no start no crank no click no nothing . loss on communication with the bcm is the dtc. charged battery and still nothing.


Try starting it in neutral. If it starts OK and every time, replace the range sensor/ neutral safety switch, on the transmission.. After that replace the RF wheel bearing/sensor. Have the codes cleared . See if the Communication code goes away.

I have a 2010 Chevy impala LS instrument cluster and it has a 20 pin plug I'm trying to figure out which wire's on the back of the cluster are for the speed sensor, rpm, gas, and temp wires.


Boy your way off base . All the gauges are inputs from the ECM - engine computer . The VSS - vehicle speed sensor , ETC - engine coolant temp sensor , sending unit in the fuel tank , All this sensors input the engine computer . The PCM then sends this info on the GMLAN serial data bus ,communications network . The Instrument cluster has a microprocessor inside that translates this info an controls the gauges. You probably have an instrument cluster problem or a communication network problem . Your best bet is to take your vehicle to the dealer or some other qualified repair shop. Need to have it checked for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes.

Engine Coolant Temperature Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the engine coolant temperature as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the engine coolant temperature. The IPC receives the coolant temperature information via serial data message from the body control module (BCM). The engine coolant temperature gage defaults to 60?°C (140?°F) or below if:

Fuel Gage
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the fuel level as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the fuel level percent. The body control module (BCM) sends the fuel level information from the ECM to the IPC via a serial data message indicating the fuel level percent. The fuel gage defaults to empty if:

When the fuel level is less than a pre-determined value, the low fuel indicator illuminates in the IPC.
Odometer
The vehicle odometer is calculated and stored electronically in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). The IPC contains a season odometer and trip odometer A or B. Momentarily press the trip/fuel button in order to toggle between the season odometer and the trip odometer. Press the set/reset button for greater than 0.25 seconds, while the trip odometer is displayed, in order to reset the trip odometer. The IPC displays the vehicle mileage and trip mileage as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC calculates the mileage based on the serial data vehicle speed information from the ECM. The odometer will display 'error' if an internal IPC memory failure is detected. The odometer displays either miles or kilometers and can be set through the customization menu in the driver information center (DIC).
PRNDL Display
The instrument panel cluster (IPC) displays the selected gear position as determined by the engine control module (ECM). The IPC receives a serial data message from the ECM indicating the gear position. The PRNDL display blanks if:

Why is my ck engine & passlock light on & won't stay crank but will when I jump relay ?


Hi Pattie , What relay are you jumping ? Run/crank or start relay ?
Your check engine light an passlock light are lit because there is a problem an you need to take it an have it checked out ! Unless you have a factory or equivalent scan tool ! There are DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes stored in the BCM - body control module an in the PCM - powertrain control module . Your dealing with complex electronics an jumping things you have no clue as to how it works can render you vehicle useless !

The body control module (BCM) performs multiple body control functions. The BCM can control devices directly connected to its outputs based on input information. The BCM evaluates this information and controls certain body control systems by commanding outputs on or off. The BCM control inputs can be:
?€¢
Sensors and switches that are directly connected to the BCM


?€¢
Class 2 serial data received from other control modules connected to the class 2 serial data link.

The BCM is also capable of controlling other vehicle systems that are not directly wired to the BCM. The BCM does this by sending specific messages on the class 2 serial data link. The control module capable of performing the required function will respond to the BCM message.
The data link connector (DLC) allows a scan tool to communicate with the class 2 serial data line. The serial data line is the means by which the microprocessor-controlled modules in the vehicle communicate with each other. Once the scan tool is connected to the class 2 serial data line through the DLC, the scan tool can be used to monitor each module for diagnostic purposes and to check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Class 2 serial data is transmitted on a single wire at an average of 10.4 kbps. This value is an average, class 2 uses a variable pulse width modulation to carry data and depending on the message it may operate faster or slower. The bus will float at a nominal 7 volts during normal operation. Each module can pull this lower during the transmission. The bus is not at battery positive voltage or ground potential during normal operation. When the ignition switch is in RUN, each module communicating on the class 2 serial data line sends a state of health (SOH) message every 2 seconds to ensure that the module is operating properly. When a module stops communicating on the class 2 serial data line, for example if the module loses power or ground, the SOH message it normally sends on the data line every 2 seconds disappears. Other modules on the class 2 serial data line, which expect to receive that SOH message, detect its absence; those modules in turn set an internal DTC associated with the loss of SOH of the non-communicating module. The DTC is unique to the module which is not communicating, for example, when the inflatable restraint sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) SOH message disappears, several modules set DTC U1088. Note that a loss of serial data DTC does not normally represent a failure of the module that set it.
Body Control Module (BCM)
The body control module (BCM) contains the logic of the theft deterrent system. The BCM provides the 5-volt reference to operate the Passlock?"¢ sensor. The BCM also measures the voltage of the off/run/crank voltage. The voltage measured will indicate whether the Passlock?"¢ sensor has been activated and whether the resistance value from the sensor is a valid value or the tamper value. If voltage measured is in the valid range, the BCM compares this voltage to a previously learned voltage code. If the voltage codes match, the BCM sends a serial data message containing a password to the engine control module (ECM). If the voltage codes do not match, or the voltage is in the tamper range, or there is a circuit fault, the BCM will not send the correct password to the ECM, and the vehicle will not start.

Without knowing make or model Po725 is a Chrysler code for Engine Speed Sensor Circuit
Possible Causes- - Open or shorted CKP sensor circuit condition
- Poor CKP sensor electrical connection
- Check communication error between the ECM and TCM
- Failed CKP Sensor
When is the code detected- The P0725 Codes is triggered when TCM does not receive the engine speed signal from ECM. My 1990 riviera will run great, as you are going down the road it will shut off,but crank right backup. whats wrong?


Check the ECM part number. If it is a 1228253 that is your problem. get a 16198264 the other number does just what your car is doing. I worked at a Buick dealer and know about the problematic 1228253 ecm.

U1064 code & can't check the codes on a scanner. engine starts & dies. when it was running the abs light & brake lights were on & theft & service lights were on.


Sounds like a blown fuse to one of the computers, either the ECM (engine control computer) or the BCM (body control computer). The ECM fuse should be under the hood and the BCM fuse in the cabin. The U1064 means a loss of communication on the data line between computers (64 usually is the BCM). If the computers can't communicate they will shut down the engine and set trouble codes. The other issue could be a faulty ignition switch not allowing power to a computer (but not common for cavaliers or sunfires). If fuses are good, chances are you have a faulty computer somewhere in the data line, shorting out communication.
