Re: 2001 Buick Century transmission failure
This is not a big problem with this car . I ran a garage for a bunch of years and we had a lot of them come through and me and my workers owned a few of them they are really good cars, with very few transmission problems. You just have to have your teenager not beat on it and come to a complete stop before shifting from drive to reverse or vice versa. If you have anymore questions ill be more then happy to answer them, also if you can please rate me id appreciate it.

This doesn't sound right at all. You should have it done every 30k miles but 16 is a little overboard really. Even then it depends on your driving habits and the environment you live in but 30k is on the safe side of that. Now if they just flushed it out then i would suggest maybe replacing the filter (hopefully they did that with the flush!). If there are any problems with the transmission i can almost stake that it doesn't have to do with the fluid but something else. There is always a chance that the shop that did it didn't do it right so i can't say exactly if it would really NEED it or not. You can check the fluids and make sure that it still looks good. If it doesn't then there is something else wrong causing this (maybe a seal) or the shop didn't properly flush it.
You are pretty sharp...most likely an early tranny problem...I would add a full bottle of Lucas Oil Transmission stabilizer to "treat" the transmission...this is only an $11. bottle and can be added without draining any fluid...This could solve your tranny problem for many trouble free miles...Hope this helps.
Yes, this is very important maintenance procedures. Transmission should be serviced (filter, oil, and oil pan gasket replaced) @ 60K miles, plugs at 100K miles (I'd replace them early for better gas mileage), and radiator flushed @ 60K miles. Hopefully this helps!!
2001 Century just hit 40,000 miles and the engine light has come on. Im wondering if this is an automatic when the car trips at 40K- for a check up or whatever GM wants your money for.
ps - from '89 to 2008 I had been driving Nissans, Toyotas and Hondas - Im driving this car only because I gave my Toyata Rav4 to my daughter and got this Buick from my elderly mother as she no longer drives. Its is amazing what a piece of **** this car is compared to what Im use to. At 40,000 miles you start having the engine light come on - amazing!
