First check and see if you have spark at any of the sparkplugs and then if you do you need to check your fuel pressure it should be 48-55 psi with the key on and engine off.

Fuel Filter Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Relieve the fuel system pressure.
  4. Raise and support the vehicle.
  5. Disconnect the plastic quick connect from the fuel filter inlet.
  6. Unthread the fuel filter from the outlet pipe.
  7. Drain remaining fuel into a gasoline container

To Install:
  1. Remove the new fuel filter protective caps.
  2. In the same position as on the old fuel filter, install the new plastic connector retainer on the fuel filter inlet.
  3. With clean engine oil lubricate the new fuel pipe O-ring and install it on the outlet pipe.
  4. Connect the fuel filter inlet to the quick connect fitting.
  5. Thread the fuel filter into the fuel outlet line, and using a back-up wrench prevent the nut from turning torque to 22 ft-lb (30 Nm).
  6. Lower the vehicle.
  7. Install or tighten the fuel cap.
  8. Connect the negative battery cable.
  9. Check for leaks using the following procedure:
    1. Turn ON the ignition for 2 seconds.
    2. Then OFF the ignition for 10 seconds.
    3. Turn ON the ignition.
    4. Inspect for fuel leaks.
  10. Install the fuel injection sight shield.

SOURCE: Car wont start, no clicks no sound

make sure you have power getting to your starter when you crank. check the small nut on the starter. should have 12 v or very close to it. this will tell you if your getting power to the starter or if somethign before the starter and something maybe with your anti theft system or not. its hard to say online cause of that anti theft. doest the light flash at all? the anti theft light?

if your getting power to the starter when you crank make sure your getting good power to the starter by turning on the head lights and see if they dim. a good starter will cause the headlites to dim when attempting to start. if nothing dims check connections. or assume bad starter motor. make sure your also getting power to the main starter stud as well.

good luck

99 lesabre getting hard to start even though it turns over fine. Problem seems to be worse after sitting over night. Smell gas after coming home from driving.

Check out the fuel filter, also look for a fuel leak in the manaflod area. When you go to start it, turn the key on for 10 seconds before you try to start the engine and then turn it over and see if it doesn't start easier. If the fuel pump is getting weak it gives it a chance to build up pressure.
