Most likely, No.

The OD issue is prob an issue with a stuc valve in the tmission valve body, or a torque converter lock up that is not working.

$$$$$. THe speedometer issue is usually a cable or guage mechanical issue.

Depending on your car it is a stretch but an electrical issue could be a common link. it is just less likely. Go by an auto parts store and run an OBD II CHeck for Codes. THis is free at most parts stores. IT may indicate a sensor or electrical issue

A speedometer shows speed, which is the magnitude of velocity. It does not show velocity, which is a vector, meaning it includes a direction. So speedometer notworking have nothing to do with the transmission not going into overdrive. Know more diagnostic tool for car.

this sounds like a bad speed sensor which communicates with the ECM and TCM to shift the transmission which will cause the speedometer and the transmission to act the way it is.

Speed sensor issues error code P0500

sounds like a transmission issue could need a transmission fluid flush then you should be fine the first indicator that your transmission is going bad is the first gear and reverse but since its overdrive probably just a tranny fluid issue hope that helps

Lost speedometer and overdrive light flashing

Its most likely the vehicle speed sensor. Its on the transmission near the output shaft on the passenger side. Check the connection first, if it's good, change the sensor.

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by a leaking vacuum line.

Speed sensor and overdrive

OVERDRIVE ENGAGEMENT IS TIED TO THE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL, THE SYSTEM WILL NOT GO INTO OD UNTIL THE CAR REACHES A CERTAIN SPEED, IN MOST CASES AROUND 35-40 MPH, THE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL TELLS THE ECU WHEN THE CORRECT SPEED HAS BEEN REACHED.
