2005 Honday Odyssey with engine ticking sound

I have a 2005 Honday Odyssey (125,000 miles) with ticking sound coming from the engine. It is not unlike the loud timing watch sound that starts the show of "60 Minutes" (frequency and pitch)! The sound seems to be growing in intensity and is very obvious when the car is idling. I have been very faithful on oil changes, always requesting the 5W20 which is stamped on the oil cap, and the van uses very little oil between oil changes. What's the best guess as to what is going on? Guestimate on cost to fix it?

SOURCE: engine noise

You have the 5.4 3 valve engine in your Navigator, Ford has had various problems with noise from this motor. The cost of repair will vary because this noise cam come from different places, such as cam phasers, valve lash adjusters and sometimes the ticking noise is actually coming from the injectors which is considered normal. I would have it checked out by the dealer. -Jared

The tranny fluid on most cars and trucks is 30,000 miles ,as far as the engine oil if you use a good oil brand like Honda motor oil or even like Motorcraft they are a synthectic blend 5w20 and you can go 5,000 miles between oil changes. Now if your useing regular motor oil change it every 3,000 miles.Hope that helps

I have a 94 YJ gave me the same issues and I did all you did and more.
Finely I was told that penzoil has a parfin base which lends it self to the cause. I don't know if it is true or not I'm just a shade tree mech. I switched over to full synthetic and WA-LA It took a couple of changes after a good cleaning but I've been TICK free for a over a year now. since I do my own change it helps hold the cost down. I was also told I needed lifters and a rebuild & all that jazz so I figured that if she was gona die I'd deal with that when it happens so far so good.

Not sure if there is a question here or not. If the pressure is always below 40 and you are hearing engine noise, chances are the oil pressure really is low. You could replace the sending unit or use a mechanical gauge to verify.

When I turn on my car the maintenance required light on my 2000 Honday Odyssey stays blinking for another 5 seconds once the car is on. Is there a problem

HI, that little pesky light comes on and blinks to remind you your due for service at 6000 miles to 7500 miles. It will stop blinking and stay on steady for ten seconds after 7500 miles. Your dealer or mechanic will resets the light when they do your services. You can find the procedure to reset it in your owners manual if you want to do it yourself. Happy motoring

How often do I have to change the oil in my 2005 Honday Odyssey? The manual doesn't specifiy clearly. Should I just go by what the oil gauge on the dashboard tells me?

3months or 3,000 miles is the traditional, however with the heat these newer motors generate if you do a lot of in town driving I would recommend around 2,000 miles to help prolong the longevity of your engine.

Most modern cars have what are commonly called Service Lights. Small lights on the instrument panel can now alert drivers when it is time for service.

Most vehicles do this through a computer calculating how many miles have accumulated since the last service.

However, some vehicles use sensors to gather this data. We have compiled a listing on the procedures to reset the reminder lights on your car, if it is equipped.

If you do not see the reset procedure for your vehicle:Reference the owner's manual that came with your vehicle. Reset procedures are often described in depth with illustrations:

turn the key to the accesories position. pump the break pedal 3 times. the check engin light should flash. then turn the key to the off position and then start the car. the light should reset.

I am not sure if that works I have a 2004 Odysey and I did this and it worked.

While the car is off, push and _hold_ in your Trip meter button, then while still holding that button in... turn your ignition key to _On_ (not start). Wait until light goes out or you need a hair cut... which ever comes 1st. LOL, seriously it should go out in about 15 seconds or less

For a 2007 Honda Odyssey: Turn your ignition to the On position. Press and hold down the trip meter button for ~10 seconds (until the display blinks). Release the trip meter button. Press and hold the trip meter button a second time for ~5 seconds (until the display shows your oil at 100%).

Hope helped.
