HI, IV HAVE A FORD MONDEO MK2 T REG, THE PROBLEM STARTED A YEAR AGO WHEN THE CAR REFUSED TO START ONE DAY JUST HAD NOTHING THERE, AFTER INSPECTION AND A LOT OF PULLING PART FOUND THE ECU HAD BURNT OUT NOT EXCEPTING THE KEY CODE, WHILE I WAS AWAY ME DAD ORDERED A ECU (2ND HAND) AND KEY CHIPS HAD IT ALL FITTED STARTED UP AND WORKED FINE, EXPECT THE SPEEDO STOPPED WORKING ALSO WHEN ON THE MOTOR WAY THE CAR WILL REACH 50MPH WHEN YOU GO ABOVE 50MPH THE ENGINE CUTS ALL POWER THEN WHEN YOU DROP UNDER 50MPH BRINGS THE POWER BACK IN, TESTED SPEED WITH ANOTHER CAR BEHIND ME, THIS IS NOT LIMITED TO REVS JUST SPEED, I HAVE CHANGED THE VSS SENSOR ( SEED SENSOR, STILL NO SPEEDO. CAR STARTS FINE NO RUNNING PROBLEM, NEW BATTER ALL EARTHS CHECKED, SEEMS I WANT TO PUT IT BACK ON THE ROAD ITS THE ONLY THING STOPPING IT. ANY THOUGHTS,?

SOURCE: fuel pump relay dropping out
Obvious solution might be to change the relay, however here's a suggestion. When you see the relay starting to fluctuate manually hold it in the closed position to see if car still cuts out. If it does you're more that likely looking at an ignition problem as the relay needs a signal from the ignition to let it know the engine is running. If it doesn't cut out try another relay first.
