Try to loosen the screw of your distributor, rotate it left or right, find where it not backfire, if not backfire tighten the screw, when this made the engine is running.

SOURCE: my 1974 ford pickup/F250 3/4 ton loses power and backfires

It sounds like the timing is off but moore likely it's caused by the point gap being to close due to wear on the rubbing block.
The gap of the points effects the timing.
You probably need to clean and adjust the points.
If that doesn't work try replacing the points and if the old one are pitted, replace the condenser also.
If that doen't work check the coil.

While driving along mostly up hills and or pulling my 2002 dodge ram 1500 5 speed tends to loose power. What could be the cause of that?

All vehicles will lose a certain amount of power when going up hill or towing depending on how steep the hill or how heavy the load. Do you shift down when needed.

The first thing to do is to start monitoring the coolant level.
This will rule out the possible of headgasket coolant passage pin hole leak.
Headgasket can go at 170,000 miles+ Less if your truck is doing a lot of hauling.
