My Wife Has a 01 Sunfire and if your is anything like hers. there's a plastic guard that sits on top it has aprox. 8 pull pins holding it in holding it down. Remove those pins and then there's 2 bolts on top side right behind the headlight remove those bolts then the whole light comes out.

I have a 1999 pontiac sunfire, i need to replace headlight bulb, how do i get the lens off of it without breaking it??

most often if you examine the back of the headlight assembly you will see that the bulbs come out the rear with a twist and gentle pull. open the hood and look down.

I changed the headlights in my Pontiac sun fire 1999 and the left side headlight doesn't work

There is a harness between the headlights and there are splices inside the harness, the splices some times will corrode causing this condition, these splices have like a black duct tape type material on them and they are prone to this condition , generally behind the drivers side headlight area, but check them all, solder the connections and heatshrink. good luck

I need to replace the driver's side headlight bulb on my 1999 pontiac sunfire. do i have to remove the battery to get to the bulb?

Unless the engine compartment in your '99 is drastically different from my '96, I disagree. I've changed both of my lamps and the battery didn't have to come out. You just have to take the headlights loose to gain access to the rear of them. The lamp holder just unscrews and pops right out. If nothing else, pick up a Haynes or Chilton manual for your car. It has exacting instructions on how to change the lamp.
For what it's worth, If your headlights are hazed over like many older cars, don't buy the exact factory replacement lamp. It' won't be bright enough. Buy a higher lumen bulb.
