SOURCE: no speedometer or tachometer

according to all that you said it has to be only one problem. there are no GND connection. all you have to do is to make sure that body is connected to engine body (thick copper wire) and both of them are definitely connected to battery - ploe.

I'm assuming you're referring to a tachometer. Some VW Rabbits, Jettas, Foxs (precursers to the Golf) did come out with tachometers. You might find a good dash cluster with one in a wrecking yard or on e-bay.

Tachometer dpes not operate 35000 miles

Common issue with the 04-05 Impala instrument clusters. It's caused by a failing stepper motor on the cluster's circuit board behind the tachometer but it can be fixed. Check this page for more about it and how to get it fixed - Impala tachometer does not work

please rate highly if this helps.

Check fuse #37, 10 amp yellow in fuse panel on dash.

The camshaft sensor in the distributor sends the tach signal to the instrument cluster. wire is BU = Blue?
