You'll need to support the vehicle on safety stands. Then take off the front wheels, Then take off the calipers that hold your brake pads. Then take off the bracket that the caliper is bolted too. Then remove the rotor. I suggest replacing the pads as well and be sure to clean the rust from where the pads rest on and make sure they slide easy back and forth, this will help in a longer life for the pads. It probably will cost a few bucks to get the code reset, but you don't need to go to the dealership, most shops with a good scanner equipped for air bag code reading will be able to diagnose and reset the light. The most probable reason for the code is the battery being dead for a while, there is a capacitor in the airbag circuit to make sure the airbag can go off in a collision even if the battery disconnects itself in the process. There is a slim chance it might be something else but either way the shop should be able to tell you what the problem is, and get it fixed... But, just for fun, before doing all this, i'd disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to an hour and reconnect it back, some systems do effectively reset themselves this way.

put the back of car on jack stands and secure the front tires so it does not roll and then remove the bolts off the back of the caliper there is normally two one at top and one at bottom and spray it with some kind of oil for rust and make sure you have the right size socket before you try to loosen them and once caliper is off and the old pads removed take one of the old pads and squeeze the piston on the caliper back in by using a "C" clamp and also remove some of the brake fluid from the master cylinder before you do this put the new ones back on and check the brake fluid and make sure it is full and then pump the brakes to make sure you have a good pedal also put some "No Squeak" brake stop on the back of the pads so they don't squeak they will have that where you buy the pads from

Replace rear rotors on 04 liberty.
Remove tire & wheel
Remove brake caliper, tie up out of way.
Back off e-brake shoe adjustment.
Remove factory spring clip from lugs (2places)
This is the crude part....
After attempting to pull off disc/drum with puller....I got pretty sick of it. Understand this is in the Northeast with lots of salt on the roads in winter. Needless to say there is a ridge of rust around the inside edge of the e-brake surface. Any more pressure and I was afraid of damage to the e-brake shoe asembly. I then took a small grinder with a cut off wheel and cut the disc thru (used space where caliper usually sits). Also cut nearly through the face between 2 lugs. You can't quite get thru the back corner at the disc. Since the material is cast iron it will crack when you drive a wedge in the slot cut in the disc. This opens the housing around the shoes and it slides off easily. The cutting operation took less than10 mins, alot less than the puller with hammer assist!
I know this is a bit "unorthodox" to say the least, however the object is to remove the old junk disc safely and as quickly as possible, without harming the e-brake parts inside.
Install new parts in reverse order, new pads go in easy after squeezing the caliper piston back with a c clamp as is the normal procedure.

brake pedal switch, get a wire, unplug plug, bridge circuit and check lights.
plug and switch is high up on the brake pedal not normally easy to get to.

I can't get the front rotors off


Normally on most vehicles when you remove the calipers the rotors should slide right off. The calipers usually have two long bolts that need to be removed completely before they will come off. Once that is done the rotors should slide right off. I hope this helps.

I replaced both brake pads and rotors on both the front and rear of my 2007 Jeep Liberty but when I brake, especially from a higher spped such as an exit ramp, there is shaking/pulsating in the brake...


The brake rotors need to be cut or replaced. There are high spots and low spots on the rotor, and due to this, the brake pedal will pulse when the brakes are applied. When ever brakes are replaced, the rotors should also be serviced.

lift and suport frame of vehicle, place safety stands under frame to prevent vehicle from falling, take tire off, remove fastners holding caliper to steering knuckle, remove caliper mount by removing fasteners at steering knuckle, slide rotor off.

When i am stopping the front wheels shake a little


this is caused by warped front brake rotors, have them machined true or replace them if they are to thin to turn down on a brake lathe.

I just purchased a 05 Jeep Liberty and I now hear a clicking/tapping sound coming from I think the front right. It goes away when I apply the brakes. I just had a complete brake job done to the vehicle....


It is probably brake pad pulsation due to worn rotors (the thickness is less then it is required). Also check brake caliper assembly.
