Chances are He could not afford to REPAIR it anymore! There are Hundreds of pages on the Internet about Recalls, Complaints, Service Bulletins on the Chevy and GMC Blazers. Just got rid of my 2000 and had to take a BIG loss on it But, it was Worth it! Ok, The 4x4 Problem is the Transfer Case, All that you can do is get a New one, Rebuilt, Salvage. The Dying and Sputtering could Very well be the Distributor Cap, Plug Wires, Plugs, I would start there and see what you get.

Misfires when cold

Just means it isn't warmed up yet when sputters and misfires. Most likely a bad connection on the temperature sending unit in the engine or that sending unit is faulty. This sending unit tells the computer when engine is warm or cold and has to be functional. When working properly, it tells the computer to put engine in cold start mode, which it is not doing. The sensor is stuck in open position or warm mode and not giving the engine enough fuel when cold making it misfire and sputter. Fix that and you'll have no other problems with revving either.

I have a 97 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 and it recently started to shake and sputter when running around 1500 but if I hammer on the gas it takes a second and then takes off any solutions?

There are MANY things that can cause an engine to "shake and sputter".
Shake and sputter in the auto repair world is called "cylinder misfire". There is not enough room on this page to list all the different things that can cause a cylinder misfire. Diagnosing a misfire can take several different turns depending on things like how many cylinders are misfiring, at what engine RPM(S) is(are) the misfire(S) occuring, what engine temperatures, vehicle speeds, etc. etc. etc.. Certain possible causes can either be verified or eliminated due to the answers to these questions.

The first thing to do is to scan your engine control computer to see if there are any stored Diagnostic Test Codes (DTCs - commonly reffered to as "fault codes"). This can have a HUGE influence on which turn to take. It is kind-of like when your thumb is smashed to pieces and turning black, you know when you check the data that your pain was not caused by a razor was the hammer that did it. If you do not look at the data, all you know is that your thumb hurts.

98 expedition 5.4 4x4 with dual a/c..sputters and shakes while idle and driving...please help me ! i have replaced 5 of the 8 spark plugs till i can get to the back 3 (pain in the ****) no change not even...

When you know the symptom who needs codes? And if there was a code it probable say lean bank 02. why simple you have a misfire. the smell rich exhaust the shake and sputter in drive. 2 causes the Expedition suffer from ,An open EGR valve. If you can change a fuel filter and change a spark plug you can test this. when the engine is running and misfire at idle and the vehicle is warmed up and at operating temperature. Turn off engine. Go to the EGR is it hot to touch. because if it is it open and this the the culprit.Another misfrie is from COP (coil on plug.)When you change the spark plug where any of the spark boot torn or worn that spark can go through. Or even a faulty COP will do this .To find it you have the engine running and lift one COP out of the cylinder and listen for a engine drop if the engine RPM drop the COP is good if no change in engine the COP is bad. By the way 600rpm in drive is low
