Question about 1996 Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 1996 HOnda Accord, and the car has an alarm. Most of the time i have to fight for some time to get the alarm to allow me to start the car

For the past week there's been a little trouble. but I've had to give up a day of work today because I can't get the key to turn in the ignition switch, so I can't start the car. Please give me an idea so i can get it started and don't have to take the bus to work...and possibly have to walk home more than 10 miles in the dark.

If the key itself doesnt turn its not an alarm issue its the ignition switch itself u need to replace it, it is worn out

SOURCE: honda accord key broblem

All you need to do is push the Shifter in harder into park and the key will come right out.. I had this problem once too.. The car just doesn't know it's in park because you didn't push it in far enough.

it could be the main relay, its notorious for the 91-93 models, so it might be that, and its the same symptoms.

SOURCE: replace starter in 2004 honda accord

Try 'jiggling' the key while you hold it in the start position' this could be a failed ignition switch.
It could also be that the + terminal on the starter or starter solenoid may be corroded. Since the battery was just replaced, those terminals are probably clean enough but check the negative cable where it attaches to the chassis or block. If the connection is flaky here, enough current can often pass to allow lower current devices to operate but drop too much voltage if the starter is trying to operate. Starters require 100-200 amperes, many times higher than anything else in our vehicles and show up cruddy connections pretty quick.

How can i stop the alram every time i plug in the battery off a honda accord 2000 if the alarm is not manufactured by honda

Follow the alarm speaker (Horn sounding off) wiring. It will most likely go underneath the dash. Remove the box for the aftermarket alarm and all its wiring. (Not car manufacture harness) make sure to take it all out as certain models can leave vehicle unable to start if only partial removed.

How does car alarm disabble start condition when activated?

When you turn the key to the run position the pump only cycles for about 2 seconds so put a multi meter to the pump wires & have someone turn the key do not use the car as a ground in case the ground is bad if still no power check at the computer.

Honda Accord dash lights don't turn on starts momentarily then turns off

That is either a sensor or an alarm system acting up. Not a Honda guy but on others thats what can cause that. If the key has a rfid chip its the alarm and you may need a new key from the stealer. what happens in that case is the car doesn't detect an authourised key and thinks it is being stolen and shuts off after a half second of running.

Try chaning the main relay. It is $60 at the dealer, cheaper on e-bay. There is also a way to repair the sodlering connection on it if you want to try and save some money. Check youtube for a video on how to rapir main relay on Honda's. Any questions, e-mail me at edwardmgomez@hotmail.com

How to disconnect alarm system on 1996 honda accord.

Disconnect the battery. Go under the steering wheel and look for a system of wires that is added on. Chances are that the alarm is taped were the wires are wrapped around the car wires and start removing. There will be a module to remove too. If you can't tell what is original and what was added then you can't proceed. Get a pro.

I have a 1996 honda accord, it sometimes starts on the first shot, sometimes it take as while and putters then starts and ,oreover other times it sometime turns over healthy but would not start. We havwe...

this sounds like a crank sensor is faulty or becoming faulty..and when you shut the car off, it take away that spark not allowing your start...however, on other times, the spark is present with a strong, crank...try testing the crank sensor, if bad, install new one...

My guess is that you would have to get the users manual for your car alarm to change it's settings. There is a procedure that will allow you to use the passive arming so you can maually activate it or not. I have the viper, and this is how I set my alarm.
