I am removinging my 2003 2.3 ranger auto transmission. Is there a special tool for removing the nuts on the torque converter. I removed the starter but the space is very limited and the angle for removal is almost impossible it's like I need a distributor wrench. Any suggestions.

Transmission removal will be required for replacement of the slave cylinder as well as a special tool needed to disconnect the hydraulic line from the cylinder. You can anticipate it being a 6-7 hour job having the correct tools on hand
Fluid level and a dirty filter are the first things to check, then a band adjustment is next on the list. as the pan needs to come off to change the filter adjst the bands at the same time. the tea levels in the bottom of the oil pan will tell you in there are more serious issues inside.
Remove the transmission pan, remove the transmission shifting assembly (19 10 mm head bolts) -- don't worry it will not fall apart -- there are three star shaped screw heads so be sure you have a tool to remove these -- DO NOT TIP the assembly as there are floating ball valves within it -- remove the top plate, take out the clip, replace solenoid & replace the unit -- BE SURE YOU NOTE WHICH OF THE WIRES GO WHEREFROM THE SOLENOID, PRIOR to removeal of the shifting assembly....
Well to start, you need to remove the shifter from the transmission. Then remove the driveshaft. Then unplug the plugs from the side of the transmission and disconnect the clutch fluid line. Then remove the crossmember. Unbolt the bellhousing bolts. Then have a friend help you remove the transmission. Then unbolt the clutch.
remove interior door panel(need special tool to pop plastic clips holding panel to door)with panel off remove plastic film, with window up you should be able to see two 10m nuts-bolts to remove-also have to pop lever off that goes down to door latch
THERE IS A SPECIAL TOOL THAT CAN BE RENTED OR PURCHASED AT YOUR LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE. IT CONSISTS OF A LARGE OPEN END WRENCH AND A LONG FORK-LIKE TOOL THAT GRABS THE NUTS ON THE FAN SO THAT THE WRENCH CAN LOOSEN THE LARGE NUT THAT HOLDS THE FAN CLUTCH TO THE FAN. I HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR USING FIX-YA AND FOR AN HONEST RATING. P.S. BE SURE TO LOOK AT THE NEW CLUTCH TO FIND OUT WHICH DIRECTION THE THREADS GO. SOME OF THESE ARE LEFTY TIGHTY, SOME ARE LEFTY LOOSEY. GOOD LUCK
