Question about 1999 Audi A4

3 Answers

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

Dashboard warning system indicates brake light failure.
Left rear brake light does not work when brake pedal depressed.
Bulb checked and definitely not "burnt out". Fuses checked and definitely not "burnt out". (All 5 amp fuses checked and OK)
Car is 1999 A4 Saloon.
Any ideas?

I checked the bulb using an AVOmeter. I also replaced the bulb as a double check. I have also tested the circuit on the rear light assembly - just in case there was a brake there but all is OK.

There is a suggestion in the owners guide that the problem may be with the brake light switch - but I would have thought that that would have affected all of the rear brake lights, not just the left one.

Thanks. Interestingly, there was condensation on the outside of the bulb when I first opened up the assembly. However, I have just tested the circuit to the bulb (with 'her indoors' depressing the brake pedal) and there is no voltage. I think this points to the brake light switch or a circuit break in the wiring? Thanks again and have a happy new year!

Take the bulb back out have someone sit in car apply brake get your self a circuit tester and check to see if this circuit is carrying efficient 12 volt current! some times in cold weather these bulbs get hot with long period of breaking and when released condensate and rust begins and you get what you have perhaps bad socket! this would be a ideal location to begin and probably end,

You have a bad ground on that side... find where the ground attaches to the frame... unscrew the connect... clean it up with abit of sandpaper and reattach it... you should be good to go on that

How do i stop warning light on dashboard for all rear left hand lights. they are all working but warning light keeps coming up.

It could be alight with two filaments...I.e. The brake light which means the circuit on that cluster is reading open thus activating the warn light.try swapping the brake light for the right and see if it corrects the problem then go get some replacement bulbs.

Left rear brake light stopped working but bulb and fuses are OK.

These are Dual Function Bulbs. They control the Parking Lights and the Brake Lights. This Bulb is Burnt out on the Brake Coil inside the Bulb. I have actually seen Bulbs that were Bad But you could not Tell by jast looking at them. It should be fine with a New Bulb. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!
