Change the remote, If still not working see the receiver sensor in the car.

If you simply replaced the battery in the key, it fell out of synch with the vehicle, there is a procedure in your owners manual to resynch the key to the system. If you follow the procedure, and the key does not work, the system may have become disabled, and you need to go through the provedure again to enable it and synch the key.
If that still does not get it synched, you will likely need to take it to Benz dealership to have them synchronize it. Should run around 50 bucks.

If the car starts with the key but won't unlock the doors then you need to resync them. Make sure the batteries are good or just replace. The resync is shown near the back pages of your owners manual. Basically to resynce you insert key turn to position 2 then remove. Press and hold lock all and press lock 5 times within 10 seconds then release all buttons and press the lock key one more time. It varies from model to model and year to year but is covered by your manual. And yes this is one of the few things that cost $50 at the stealerships.

If the battery is dead or so weak it won't be able to run the circuit inside the key. When the key is plugged in the start, it won't emit the signal to be recognized, the engine will not start.
1- There are 2 lithium batteries in the remote key to be replaced.
2- Is it possible that you pick up the remote key from another Mercedes car in the house since they are all look like.
3- Since you can open the door manually it means the key is correct. However, kids in the house and swap keys from FOB from its original ones.
4- After replacing battery then it's still not working, before order a new FOB, I advise you to read this link, it may help you save a couple hundred dollars
