My car seems to sputter in short bursts, sometimes seems like it's going to stop running. Error code is PO183 (fuel temperature sensor a circut high input) and and PO088 (fuil rail/system pressure too high. Does anyone know what would cause both error codes. could it be the fuel filter, or does it look like to pump?

Check the fuse to the injector. If it is out or got wet, it could mimic these conditions. let me know what happens. I have an 85 model.

Possible problem with the alternator not putting out enough voltage. I had the same problem with my 2002 XC70, putting in a new alternator fixed it. I used a local mechanic who I found on the car talk web-site. Low Cost Volvo parts can be purchased at FCP Groton.

Based on the condition of the plugs it sounds like its running rich. I almost wonder if someone sold you the wrong pumps and you have too much pressure or something.
Could also very well be whacked injectors. I am thinking it may even be a timing issue...
