Re: 2002 sonata code P0121 throttle/pedal position sensor...
You need to check the wiring between the ECM/PCM/ECU and the sensor to ensure the sensor is getting the voltage that it should be as well as the voltage it should be putting out. Also check the sensor itself you may have bought a bad sensor. Good luck to you. Thanks for using FixYa!

When is the code detected? Malfunction is detected when an excessively low or high voltage from the sensor is sent to ECM. Possible symptoms Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light) P0121 CHEVROLET Description The throttle position sensor (TPS) responds to the accelerator pedal movement. This sensor is a kind of potentiometer which transforms the throttle position into output voltage, and emits the voltage signal to the Engine Control Module (ECM). In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds the voltage signal to the ECM. Idle position of the throttle valve is determined by the ECM receiving the signal from the throttle position sensor. This sensor controls engine operation such as fuel cut. On the other hand, the Wide open and closed throttle position switch, which is built into the throttle position sensor unit, is not used for engine control.
code p 0121 has to answers
1--refers to throttle position (TP) sensor/accelerator pedal position sensor A--range /performance problem====causes --accelerator cable adjustment--TP/APP sensor ---wiring
The second reference is the same and the causes are--accelerator cable adjustment--TP/APP switch
(APP is accelerator pedal position)
P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A -Circuit Malfunction
P0121 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A -Circuit Range/Performance Problem
P0122 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A -Circuit Low Input
,try changing the throttle pedal switch/mechanism on the floor in the cabin
code p0121 refers to throttle position sensor(TP) A/ accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor A --range performance problem===causes---accelerator cable adjustment---TP/APP sensor ---wiring
check that the cable is not broken and/ or replace the sensor.
P0121 is : throttle / pedal position sensor/switch A circuit range/performance problem P0573 is : cruise control /brake switch A circuit high first check : there is two switch on brake pedal linkage one for brake light and the second with rubber hose for cruise control try to push switch toward brake pedal to ajust tps code P0121 check for wires if they are cut hope it helps
Change the throttle sensor first, and see if the map sensor is a victum. throttle sensor is similar to an old volume reostat, on some cars and everything else tries to do react, and everything errors out.... My bet is throttle position sensor... But you never know, it CAN be both, just usually not both.
P0121 - Throttle/Pedal
Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit Range/Performance Problem
The throttle position sensor is probably either damaged, dirty, unplugged, or dead. It's located on the engine. Find the throttle body - the TPS will be the little box on the side of the throttle body - it measures how far open the throttle is, and tells the computer so the computer knows how to direct the car's driving parameters (shift points, fueling, etc).
