Mitsubishi shogun not revving and lots of smoke

SOURCE: blue smoke out of exhaust, replaced turbo, still

have you driven it at least 100 miles since repair?, the oil residue builds up inside the exhaust and burns off very slowly from the previous failed turbo seal.

SOURCE: i have a 1999 mitsubishi montero sport with 3.0L

White smoke is antifreeze leak into cylinder.
Blue smoke is oil passing by rings or valve stems.
Black smoke could be gasoline problem or tune up problem.

By any chance were the timing and balance belts replaced? If the job was not correctly (even dealer staff get it wrong, usually by taking a short cut) and the balance belt is 180 degrees off, the engine will vibrate and shudder at around 2000 rpm. If the juddering was not present before the work, take it back. These things don't happen by magic.

Why is it that over revving results in more black smokes? Is it a good standard for smoke test to over rev? I own a 1 year and 5 months Mitsubishi Montero Sport with 13,000 kilometer mileage. Also, a Mazda...


The Effects of Over Revving a motor can be Catastrophic. I do not understand why the government would require someone to do such a test. Normal Emissions Testing is done at High (2100 - 2500) and the Idle (500-900).

Reason for Increased Smoke.... As you increase the internal pressure of the vehicle, you are creating a VACUUM and this is suckking the Oil past the rings, and anywhere else that it is causing the Vacuum.

Efffects of Over Revving van be Premature Failure of the engine (Could cost you $5-$8,000 to replace)... I would ask WHY so high... A Diesel would MAX OUT their RPM @ 4,000.

These people who are doing the test, ask them to show you where it says in WRITING 4,000... That is much higher than in the 4 states I have been certified to be an I/M Inspector

Mitsubishi shogun sport 2001 2.5 sounds like its running on 3 cylinders blows black smoke. also when you rev the engine it revs out, i turn the car off and its still reving out and have to stall it f


sounds like its running on the engine oil sometimes the air in take system can pull the oil from sump and engineruns on the oil .very dangerous cause no control on engine
have you over fillled it with oil this can cause your problem

When accelorating. engine judders then picks up if revs kept high. the car is 2.2 56 plate


Mine does this. It's accompanied by what sounds like air escaping with a high pitched sound, usually when changing from first to second. Also, sometimes no grunt in first gear as if turbo not working, engine revs but car goes nowhere and then loads of black smoke comes out of back.

your engine is running very lean. you may have a vacum leak, bad injectors, fuel pump, mass airflow sensor ect. do not continue to run the engine or sever damage will result
