Fuel pump relay dropping out

When cold you start the car it starts up fine. it runs for about 30sec-1min then stops suddenly. it sometimes starts straight away, runs for about 30sec then stops.won't be able to restart for about 15-20min. i have changed the crankangle sensor, still the same problem.i have had the ecu chip checked, still the same problem.i have pulled the cover off the fuel pump relay and watched the contacts and noticed that as it starts to cut out the relay starts dropping out then in then out and then the car stops.

Obvious solution might be to change the relay, however here's a suggestion. When you see the relay starting to fluctuate manually hold it in the closed position to see if car still cuts out. If it does you're more that likely looking at an ignition problem as the relay needs a signal from the ignition to let it know the engine is running. If it doesn't cut out try another relay first.

How do I fix my BMW X3 2004 it has trouble starting on cold starts in winter and it stalls? Any solutions? More details below.

First thing to do is run a fuel pressure leakdown test. borrow or buy a fuel pressure test gage for you car and hook it to the fuel injection rail test port, then start the engine and shut it off the pressure should not drop by more than 5 PSI, if overnight it drops to near zero PSI you have a failed fuel pump pressure check valve and you need a new fuel pump. Also clean the throttle valve and the idle speed control valve with spray throttle valve cleaner.

Engine starts but dies in 3 seconds.

Sounds like a fuel pressure issue. Try listening for the fuel pump to kick off while its running. If it does, its time to replace the fuel filter. You might also try swapping out the Fuel pump relay as well.

Gas not getting engine(flter or pump)

Sounds like the fuel pump and filter. Spray starting fluid in throttle body if cars starts the its your fuel pump and fuel filter.

Fuel pressure intermittently drops causing sputter and die.

check for 12v constant at your fuel pump if you are not getting that replace your relay.
if you are getting 12 volts at your fuel pump the fuel pump is possible to run tuel it gets warm then shut down to a lower rpm I would then replace the fuel pump

1993 Jeep Cherokee starts when cold. Runs short distance.

It can possibly be the crank position sensor mounted on the top of the bell housing on the passenger side of the vehicle causing the problem. I have replaced a few of these for the same reason.

Engine does not run smooth

Sounds like a fuel problem, Bad fuel pump relay of actual fuel pump check relay first may be working intermittently.( Replace relay first before going to pump). Good luck thanks for using FIX YA
