Rough running, loss of power in 2005 ford escape

Our 2005 Ford Escape was running very rough, really bad gas mileage, reduced power. We changed all spark plugs and ignition coils, but the problem persists. The only code it has thrown is for the ignition coils, but the engine light is still on and it is now running worse. Help!

Not sure what the code was. After changing the plugs and coils the engine sounds better, but now we do not have any power. It won't even get up to 25 mph. It has been suggested we gut the catalytic converter, but we are having a hard time removing it.

SOURCE: Ford Escape 3L 2002 Rough idle

generally, when the engine is washed, water gets trapped behind the spark unit and stays there, creating a shorting path for spark plug current. best to dis-mount the spark unit (follow plug wires back to source) and dry and clean it thoroughly.

SOURCE: How do you know if a coil is bad on a 2002 Ford

Coils are a commmon issue with these fords. I would advise to have the plugs changed at the same time if they are due (around 100 k).

First I would suggest you try to get a print out from the dealer for the computer test they did on the car. The computer test should have given them a very good idea of what was wrong before they started fixing anything. Also what they fixed should be under warrantee. If you are still having the same problem, it should have been something they addressed in the beginning.

Why my bad motor in escape didnt have oil cooler and replacement did?

Could be a mod after market, or a change duiring production and you go the other style engine. Not a bad thing to have, will keep the engine running much cooler, prolong oil and engine life, and a bit better gas mileage.

It helps to tell what engine you have??? You really need a Mechanic to check that out. It gets real expensive to guess.
