Believe your tach cable is going bad. I heard a strange noise in mine when I was going slow. After the cable broke had no more noise :).

My Alero stays accelerated. All sensors have been replaced. computer diagnotics have been performed 3 times with no results. The acceleration causes the RPM guage to go up to 2-3RPM.

I hope for your sake it is the same simple problem I had building for some weeks on my Subaru Outback; the shaft of the throttle-body was gummy. I soaked the shaft with a penetrating lubricant (NOT WD-40 which evaporates) JB 80 which leaves lubricant behind after the penetrating part is gone. I tend to look for simple things first.

One by one my gauges(rpm, gas, speedometer, oil) stopped working. Is there a sensor that needs replaced? a fuse? dash? Help?

please keep me posted as well, ALL my gauges are doing the same. First the gas, filled it one day and it fell all the way and light turned on, then my themostat, freaked me out, thought i was overheating,...NO just the guage, NOW my spedometer is stuck on 120, and my RPM's are acting crazy. i have read tons with this same problem, WHY WONT the manufacturer DO SOMTHING??

Why is it shutting off and my rpm gauge is acting crazy

My problem was the same. It was diagnosed as needing a new Crank-shaft Sensor. Replaced it and it ran great. Very difficult to get to physically!

1996 Altima rpm's jumped up while going up hill and it has a grinding sound in passenger front

it probably downshifted (because you were going up hill) and then you'd been pushing it to hard (crazy fast acceleration) and you jacked up your tranny. See a professional

Engine surges when accelerating in neutral/fuel guage inaccurate

you have two different problems. first your gauge may have a bad ground or bad sending unit . try fuel injector cleaner as they may be gloged for hesitation .
